30th Street Pale Ale is a strong pale ale that is well dry-hopped making it taste like an IPA by many hop head’s standards. The beer was brewed to recognize the synergy behind the craft beer culture on 30th Street in San Diego and was released for the Green Flash 6th Anniversary Celebration.

Pours a slightly hazy golden with a thick head. Floral and honey on the nose along with a lot of toast, dark toast and malt. Tasted malty, refreshing and lots of bitter hops, floral and citrus. A bit sweet. Not a revolution but a superb example of the style.

On the upper end of really really good, flavorful aromatic pale ales. This beer seemed super fresh and hoppy as all get out without being overly bitter and still low on the alcohol. Very well done."

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark yellow to light amber. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), moderately hoppy (grapefruit, resin, apricot). Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. A very simple, plain, uninspiring example. Hops are the ordinary grapefruit-resin variety. Flavor balance leans towards IPA bitterness levels, with lots of citric acidity as well. Pretty much the definition of average, a dime-a-dozen rendition that, while drinkable, brings nothing new or interesting to the table.

Straw-gold pilsner color with a thick, slowly dissipating head. Dry aroma; straw, basement funk. Mild flavor; a little fruity, more straw, grain. Light palate, dry finish. Pleasant beer.

65 cl bottle @ home
Aroma is somewhat heavy and sweet with malty tones, fruits and some pineapple juice. Also hints of glue and grain. Flavour has pineapple juice, berries, some heavy and sweet malt, gluey tones and hints of alcohol. Also some minerals. Too much alcohol and glue, but not bad still. Not the most typical APA – this is more heavy than others in this style.

650ml bottle from Bierkompass

Pours reddish orange with a smooth head. Aroma of malts, caramel, grassy hops and fruits. Taste is juicy, stuffy and sweetish with loads of malts, caramel, grass and gooseberries. Finish is stuffy, crisp and malty with some grassy hoppiness and berries. A bit strange hop profile, and quite malt heavy for an APA.

Aroma is tropical fruit and orange with floral notes and some sweet toasted bread. Hazy deep golden with medium white head. Taste is sweet caramel notes upfront that fade into light tropical and floral hops mid-palate. Finish is lingering resinous bitter pine. Palate is medium with light carbonation noticeable. Overall this is a solid pale ale that tastes more like an IPA. Good balance between the sweet malts and the hoppiness.

650ml bottle. Clear golden colour with average to huge, thick, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Cleaned and engineered hoppy aroma has piney notes, some orange, mandarine, pineapple. Taste is slightly sweet caramel malty, bitter and piney hoppy, notes of pineapple, mandarine and orange; very soft palate. IPA-like in sterile Californian mode, technical sophistication eradicated any vitiation/contamination by natural processes left to to their own resources. The immaculacy of digital sounds is impressive and intriguing, but I still prefer the rude and pristine, analogue sound of vinyl.
