COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Green Flash 5th Anniversary Double IPA Brewed with 100% Columbus hops this double IPA is an absolute Columbus hop bomb! Its resinous hop character comes through with huge grapefruit zest and pine notes throughout the brew. The big juicy, fruity, citrus hops add a resinous and almost sticky hop presence in the body making the medium body from crystal malts seem even richer and fuller. This is a hop head’s treat! 9.5% ABV, 95 IBU

On tap at the brewery, served in a sampler glass. Pours clear golden amber with a moderate off-white head that fades slowly to a thin cover and leaves a small amount of lace. On the nose, it has big notes of resin, citrus and pine, along with caramel biscuity malts. The flavour is well balanced with big bitter resinous hops with lots of spice, pepper and caramel malts. The finish is long and hoppy-spicy, with prominent alcohol. On the palate, it is medium in body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice California style double IPA. Well worth another taste. 2013-03-17

November 11th, 2012 - My memory is a bit hazy (writing this in March, 2013) but I believe this was a pint or a sampler glass at the brewery itself to celebrate some kind of small achievement. I tend to find Green Flash’s hops style to be poorly tailored to my own tastes, but this Double IPA is singularly obsessed with Columbus hops. This is an exciting opportunity to test both whether I like Columbus hops and what this hops’ effect is on Green Flash’s flavor personality. The glass was too small and the tasting room too loud to get a proper read on the nose, but the flavor came through loud and clear. Biscuits and crackers of all kinds brought back memories of my carb. and cheese laden day tripping through England during one summer in college. Rye and pumpernickel bolster this robust grainy portfolio, and add a salty bread touch. Parmesan and umami flavors are abundant. I’m not sure where the advertised grapefruit and piney flavors are supposed to be, but I’m not grieving their absence. This is a beer that reminds me of a drinkable, fresh loaf of bread, and like chewing on warm bread, I’m charmed.

Amber body, decent head. Dank, stanky nose with a nice leafyness. Grapefruit spurts of flavor, bitingly bitter, and just way too acerbic overall

Pours a light copper on tap with thin off-white head and great lacing. Aroma of the hops, pine, citrus, and to me columbus has an earthy smell. Taste follows with a bitter, slightly boozy finish. Pretty damn good.

12/3/12. On tap at Brewer’s Pizza. Orange pour with a nice khaki head. Huge dank aroma with citrus and grapefruit and some alcohol. Big bitterness and a bit of sticky sweetness again with lots of dankness. Nice.

Slightly hazy golden-copper. Tropical fruit, citrus and caramel aroma. Fun hop juice. Pear, guanabana, brown sugar, and cantaloupe. Fairly normal SoCal IPA.
