COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Green Flash 1st Anniversary – American Strong Ale The original Brewmaster at Green Flash, John Stewart, created this brew in 2003 to celebrate one year of brewing in Vista, CA. The recipe starts with pale malt, medium crystal, aromatic malt, and highly kilned roasted malt. Additions of specialty brown sugar and high-grade maple sugar contribute a kiss of sweetness. Medium hopping from both the US and EU give balance to the almost chewy richness of this decadent, malty ale. John has been asked to come back as a guest brewer for a re-brew of this commemorative ale to help celebrate 10 years of Anniversary Ales at Green Flash Brewing Co. 8.9% ABV, 45 IBU

Tap at Hamilton’s. Clear medium garnet a one finger light beige head, good retention. Flavor has some mildly bitter chocolates, plenty of toasty malt, not getting much from hops other than the bitterness. Scant sweetness, dry finish, bitterness peaked at a 6 with some alcohol. Smells of bitter toasted grain, lightly husky, as well as a little alcohol. Medium body, light to medium carbonation. OK. It makes sense that this was their first anniversary.

Sample at Belmont Station. Pours a dark brownish-amber color with a medium foamy light beige head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, vanilla and hops. Medium to full body with flavors of dark malt, toffee, oaky vanilla and hops. The finish is sweet with a roasted malt aftertaste. Above average overall.

On tap at Mayor of Old Town. The aroma is strong and malty with light earthy hops and light roast. Similar flavor, fairly sweet with some bitter hops. Medium to full body with a creamy thick feel and a boozy finish. Not bad.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark amber with a creamy white head. Aroma seems berry. Flavor is brown sugar, berry, treacle, a little hop. It’s very delicious, not showing heat, finishing just a bit sweet. Excellent.

This one poured a murky dark amber color with a beige head. ARoma was of brown sugar, mild roast, some caramel and toffee and soem bittering hops. Flavor was fairly sweet, lightly spiced and roasted, more along the lines of a belgian strong.

Tap at Rattle & Hum. Translucent chestnut brown. Thin whiteish head with lace. Nose is malty caramel with a touch of barrel tone. Bourbon and vanilla undertone. Slightly young beneath that. Mouth is light bodied at first, then a nice hoppiness fading to spicy fruit, dark ripe plum, finishing sweet and slightly herbal with a touch of roasting. Lasting sweetness, boozy back and warming. Good for a slow half to relax with. ---via BeerBuddy

Pours a clear, but dark ruby mahogany color with a nice offwhite head. The aroma is a tad thin with toffee vanilla and a touch of cedar involved. On the palate there's a nice sweetness that is quickly contrasted by a mild astringency. Not a huge hop presence. Decent and balanced ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Doofgoblin (131) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - APR 14, 2013
Dark amber pour with a clinging ring of head around the glass. Aroma is fruity, malt, sweet, and faint cranberry. It’s not a highly carbonated brew so the sweet maltiness really stands out. It also has a nice balance between the sweetness and bitterness. Finishes dry, clean, and nice.
