Commercial Description:
Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

Bottle. Waaaay to phenolic. Real hot alcohol and way too much harsh bitterness. There was no blend at all in this brew, jeez. I am really disappointed.

Bottle 65 cl. Average fizzy off-white head that mostly lasted. Fair display of lacework. Hazy golden light brown color. Aroma was strong notes of malt, bread, grain, mild oak, and a solid floral and grapefruit notes. Over the palate came caramel and again solid hoppy feel. Full bodied with an average carbonation and thick dry mild alcoholic texture. Moderated bitter and sweet in balance. Lingering dry thick hoppy, oily and bread like finish. Lovely.

On tap at the Toronado Barleywine festival. A reddish amber pour with a nice beige head. This is possibly the hoppiest barleywine I’ve ever had with a nice aroma of orange, grapefruit, toffee and liquor. Starts out well with a caramel and yeast flavor with some toffee and plums thrown in. Ends with a huge hop burst that makes this one very unique. Probably will have to pick up a bomber of this soon.

22 oz bottle 2008 vintage. Pours a clear dark amber, almost red. After first sip, it almost reminded me of a IIPA. Aroma and flavor is hoppy with dominance of citrus. In addition, there is a good layer of caramel malts that nicely balance this BW out. The ABV gives a warm sensation, but hardly detectable. Nice bitter finish.

Bottle, 2008 vintage, amber-orangeish color, with a creamy beige head, leaving some laces, toasted, caramelized malt, citrus hop nose of candied lemon, orange peel, grapefruit, grasiness, with some toffee, faint liquorish accents in the aroma follows through on a full-bodied palate with a yeasty, toasty malt, flowery hop, zesty lime character, with some citrus, grapefruit, candied lemon peel, leafiness of the hop, with some toffeeish, dark fruit flavors, leading towards a warming fruity, spicy, hop leafy, grassy bitterness finish.

On tap at Toronado for Barleywine fest ’09. A nice one. Reddish-brown color with an off-white head. Sweet malt and west coast hops on the aroma. Flavor is sweet malt, toffee, dark fruits, and citrusy hops. Alcohol presence, probably from brandy barrel aging. Full on the palate and really enjoyable.

Bomber from Mreusch. Thanks Matt! big, dark read pour with a thin, off white head. Sweet, fruity, hoppy aroma. Sticky, heavy flavor of fruits, sherry. Some caramel, toffee and vanilla notes, with a bit of singed oak. Big, thick mouthfeel. Absolutely delicious. For an underrated brewery, it can’t do much wrong.

A super heavy BW. Had trouble finishing it, which isn’t like me! Lots of sweet fruit flavours. I got apricots! Very full bodied, perhaps overly so with minimal hop bitterness. A sipper and then some
