clong83 (243), San Diego, California, USA Jan 12, 2009 Pours a dark copper. Nose is full of pine resin and hops, with a few caramel malt notes. Taste is of heavy caramel malts, with a lot of nice hop bitterness. Very dry and considering alcohol is 10%, it is hidden well. Pretty solid offering. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Jan 10, 2009 The look is copper to amber in color, sort of hazy, and has a nice beige colored head. Smell is hops, pine, citrus, toffee, and alcohol. Taste is malts, hops, citrus, agressive hop bitternss, and molasses. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jan 4, 2009 Thick dark amber with a lasting thick creamy head. Aroma is alcohol and a long growing rich hop scent. Thicdk body and flavour. Huge hop presence. Long alcohol finish. Big dry hopped and aggresive. Tilted towards DIPA. djd07 (724), Houston, Texas, USA Dec 24, 2008 Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy amber color with a medium light tan head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is a sweet fruit malt with caramel. Decent lacing on the glass. The taste is rich citrus hop with a bitter finish that does not hide the alcohol well. Still a good barleywine from Green Flash. mrhoppy (209), Santa Clara, California, USA Dec 23, 2008 Dark garnet orange color very nice head. Raw grainy aroma, Flavor is Chewy sweet and toasty excellent balance between hops and malt. Alcohol really hits you. Finish is sticky and bitter. Overall I like it but there is something of a slight chemical essence here. Maybe its the alcohol or the yeast. hellbilly (1502), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Dec 22, 2008 vintage 2008
clear auburn brown pour capped with a long lasting frothy cafe au lait colored head. medium amount of drippy lacing but lots of spots. as it sits and warms the carbonation paints a "U" shape on the inside of the glass.
alcohol bites at my nose even though this is probably only 45°. aromas of brown sugar, caramel, floral hops, orange pith, candied orange peel and faint piney character.
the palate is malty but not really sweet or sugary. flavors of crystallized orange peel, orange pith, faint ginger, some toasted nuttiness, brown sugar, flowers, grass, a touch of chocolate, mild pine (though not really resinous) and alcohol on the dry finish. light to medium bodied with creamy smooth carbonation.
it is very easy to drink since it is not harsh, hot or cloying. nicely balanced but not a whole bunch of complexity or character.
7/4/7/4/16/3.8 Radek Kliber (3926), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Dec 21, 2008 Bottle 650 ml , Appearance: dark brown ale , frisky creamy top , ring of top lace Aroma: very good nose . Dark brown malts with good green hop feel . Malted sides.7+ Flavor/Palate: frontal hop character with good bitters. Rich , potent juice of hops with alcohol feel. Solid barley. jasonp (1504), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Dec 19, 2008 Bottle, aged almost a year I guess. Pours dark cloudy apple cider-y brown with a tight manilla head. Even after a year, the PacNW hop character is still strong in the nose along with notes of toffee and dark fruits. Flavor starts with notes of rich caramel, woodiness, then a strong American hop presence of pine, citrus/grapefruit then raisins and slightly burnt toffee. Although very hoppy, it ends quite balanced. Pleasant level of malty sweetness. The body is full, robust and creamy with soft fine-beaded carbonation. Excellent American Barleywine - quite similar to SN Bigfoot.
