Bigmmartin (366), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jul 28, 2008 Bottle from 1 2many. Dark amber in color with a decent head. Aroma is caramel and hops. Flavor is a pretty nice bitter sweet, with sweet malt and fairly strong hops. Something just seems lacking from this one though. Not as complex as I was hoping for. 12many (231), Ohio, USA Jul 28, 2008 Bottle. Not very impressive. Just an average barley wine really. Cloudy brown with a decent head. Aroma of mostly malt and some hops. Flavor is sweet with a mild bitterness at the end. Drinkable but definitely low on my barley wine list. ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Jul 27, 2008 (22ox bottle from Whip-In on July 27, 2008) Great foamy head on top of a dark, clear amber colored brew. Excellent, solid lacing. Aroma is hoppy, sweet with an undercurrent of sourness. Flavor of caramel, strong but not overpowering hops, and an (at first) indistinguishable sweetness thanks to the toffee. What I love about this is how hoppy it is, but how it’s not overdone. Easy to drink.. splendidly sweet! larsniclas (3383), Gothenburg, Sweden Jul 27, 2008 Bottled.
Deep ruby red. Small off-white head.
Sweet and malty, vinous aroma.
Thick, almost oily palate. Full-bodied.
Very sweet and malty flavour with a pretty distinct bitterness. rayOfBeer (316), El Cerrito, California, USA Jul 26, 2008 Poured from tap a hazy orange with an off-white. Aroma was herbal perfume somewhat like absinthe or juniper. Flavor had licorice, absinthe, juniper, citrus, wood, and ended with a nutty toffee. Palate has a big punch of warm alcohol with a big malt mouthfeel - chewy almost. I had this one after an imp stout so my palate may have been off, but it was not my favorite BW. It seems that the flavors needed some mellowing and time to meld. I’m sure I’ll try it again and re-rate in the future. mar (1740), Rowlett, Texas, USA Jul 25, 2008 deep ruby pour with a 3 finger cream colored head. dark fruits, caramel and sugar on the nose. great thickness and a good malt flavor with a small hop bitterness in the finish. blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA Jul 19, 2008 bottle, dark orange pour, good creamy head, flavors of caramel , hops and a little oak, sweet finish omhper (12154), Stockholm, Sweden Jul 18, 2008 Bottled, thanks Crosling! Hazy ruby, small head. Aroma of juicy lychee and grapefruit. Sure, it’s malty, but it’s dominated by juicy fresh citric hops. The carmelly malt is a mere excuse for the 10%. The hoppy lychee flavours later turns into long powerful bitterness. Certianly not the most complex barley wine, but very good.
