DrHomolka (726), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 16, 2008 Bomber. Pours dark copper with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma is vanilla cake icing blended with fruity hops. Interesting but nice. Taste is an explosion of hop flavor. Tons of citrus and pine, fizzy on the mouth. The bitterness is borderline over the top but it’s all right because it keeps the substantial sweetness at bay, just barely. One of the better American Style Barley Wines I’ve tried recently. mirjukka (695), LOHJA, Finland Jun 15, 2008 at Pikkulintu shared bottle with Finnish Ratebierians

Pours a murky auburn russet with a thin cap of almond foam. 10% and it still laces in a fine film. Strawberry, cherry, dark brown sugar, and a walloping citrus hop aroma. Tantalizing scent to say the least. The flavors however do not hold a candle to the fragarance. Flavors are a touch harsh and bitter with not much melding and coalescing. Toffee and browned toast, but with a snap of bitter and sharp edges. Dried fruits. Much too "young" for me. hopson (591), Williamsville, New York, USA Jun 9, 2008 bottle- yummy- pours dark brown/red/purple, and offers a nice toffee/cherry like aroma. Bitter and tasty hops dominate the flavors but nice malt backbone supports this brew. Going back to this one for sure. GF does not disappoint often. mjs (1446), Helsinki, Finland Jun 5, 2008 (Bottle, 2008 vintage, at Pikkulintu on 2008-06-04) Deep amber colour. Slightly brown small head. Clear. Lots of hops and some malts in nose. Dry and full palate. Salty liquorice and hops in taste. Very full bodied and still bitter. Would improve when aged. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 4, 2008 22oz, 2008. Ruby reddish brown with a creamy, pale yellow color. Hoppy american barley wine - pine, toffee, toast. Somewhat surprising citrus and marmalade-like notes. Roasted pear and apple pie, light spice notes. Flavor is less complex. Hoppy and bitter finish. Pithy grapefruit, nuts, burnt toast. Grassy hops. Pretty easy to drink, considering I drank it at cellar temp and it’s only an 08. Will probably smooth nicely with age. JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland Jun 2, 2008 Pale brown head. Clear red brown color. Some madeira and grass in the nose. Dark fruits prunes and raisins in the taste. Also some caramel and butter in the taste. May be a liitle bit too much hops for a barleywine.
