Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

22oz bottle, 2011 vintage. Kind of clear brown / red color. Good thin light brown head. Leaves a few dots of lace. Definitely a lot of west coast hop character still very much alive in this brew. Tropical fruit, some grapefruit citrus. Moderate to bigger bitter taste overall, minimal sweet. Light bite in the finish. Bigger body, lightly slick. Lighter, kind of crisp carbonation. Lighter caramel malt, some dark fruit. A solid. very west-coasty barley wine. A little harsh though, not nearly as smooth as, say, the Southern Tier Backburner series. Way hoppier, though. Hop is upfront and in your face, here, tropical and citrus flavors are obvious.

Bottle, thanks Eddan. Slightly hazy dark red with a small head. Sweet with dried fruit, hops, malt, toffee and some citrus. Some warming alcohol in the finish. I kind of liked this one.

@ Eddan: tydlig doft av kola och malt. Smaken är lite trevligare med tydliga toner och mörka frukter. Ganska het eftersmak. En ganska stabil amerikansk bw. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber into tulip. Smokey, coppery ember red and barmy khaki head. Resiney-piney hop aroma, caramel and cookiedough, lifesaver candies. Toffeeish malt flavor; the hop character is both intensely fruity and profoundly "deep", resembling bitter chocolate. Potent alcohol begins warm, but finishes with a minty tingle. Full, rich, buttery palate. Incredible.

2013 bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours golden orange with a creamy off white head and heavy lacing. Upfront aroma of pine needles, caramel biscuits and a nice lingering citrus. Taste is full - very thick, sticky body. Almost like a fruity caramel sauce that coats your palate. Very sweet but a nice pine driven hop bitterness balances it out, given the fact its a 2013 bottle. Lingering bitterness and a bit of warmth down the back. Really solid barleywine, got a 2011 sitting in my cellar.

Aroma: fresh sliced pear, maybe a little ginger. Smooth alcohol. Appearance: ruby red to dark brown body. Spotty lacing with off-white head. Taste: spicy and bitter hops nicely balanced by a sweet kiwi flavor. Pretty outstanding on the taste, actually. First time I have picked up kiwi in a beer. Palate: too full bodied. A little too heavy on the tongue. Coats the tongue like cough medicine. Long and bitter finish.

Nose: Classic American barley wine -Loads of creamy toffee, sugar, undercut by lime(ish) hops. Taste, is brown sugar, plums, leading to burnt toffee, slight caramel, cream, then a resin citrus finish with a little smoke. Mouthfeel is silk. A glorious barley wine.

Golden pour with thin beige head, very sweet very sticky but very hop big grapefruit and citrus hops trying to peep their head above the sweet caramel action ABV is present but overall a pleasant drink.

Bottle sampled at at tasting. From notes. Citrus and caramel with a bit of bready malt. Not bad, but not my favorite.
