jonnabrix (136), Newberrytown, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 20, 2008 Poured a dark amber color, with tan head, and left nice lacing as I drank. The aroma was hoppy, with sweet raisin and malt. Bold flavor, following the lead of the aroma, followed by some alcohol bite. Enjoyable. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jan 16, 2008 on tap-pours a dissipating light brown head and cloudy brown color with red tint. Aroma is sweet dark fruit then lots of nice cascade hops. Taste is dark fruit, lots of dry/bitter cascade hops, dark malt-chocolate/nutty, alcohol. Big. Sipping. thegreat78 (32), San Marcos, California, USA Jan 9, 2008 Rich deep copper orange fairly clear with small tan head. Very caramel and earthy hop flavor. Toffe notes along with earthy pine hop flavor balances out to make a fine barley wine. Drink it slow!!! beerbill (1919), Laurel, New York, USA Jan 9, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy coppery red with a moderate tan head that lasted until about mid-glass. Strong aroma of citrus and pine, which to me, is foreshadowing that this beer is going to be overhopped for a barley wine. The first few sips confirm it. Although there is some malt and caramel up front, it is quickly washed over with a strong pine flavor. When I want to drink an IPA, I’ll drink an IPA. As the beer warms, the hops bitterness intensifies. Way overbalanced towards the hops. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 4, 2008 22 oz. bottle - clear and dark amber with thin white head; lots of hops at first nose, then mixing with sugar and malts; yummy malty flavors, but a little thin in texture; dry and slightly bitter finish tronraner (1906), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Jan 3, 2008 Bomber. Pours rusty red with big orange-ish beige head. The aroma is tons of sticky pine, some raisin, grapey tannins, and slight alcohol. The flavor is intense pine sap and mild raisin with some fruity hops. The bitterness is mellow and under control, but lots of hop flavor is everywhere. A bit of alcohol warmth comes out in the finish and aftertaste. Pretty good. tangentrider (144), USA Jan 1, 2008 rich, deep amber with a huge head. beautiful lacing. aroma is a bit of yeast and malt, with some fruit. flavor is caramel sweet with a touch of hops. creamy texture and alcohol warmth. finish has some hop bitterness (grapefruit?) and a sweetness that fades into hop. roder60 (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 29, 2007 Pours a dark hazy amber brown with almost no head, slight whitish fizz around edges. Aroma is of very heavy caramel malts, and big amounts of piney earthy hops. Very heavy malty mouthfeel with very bitter piney earthy hops that dominate. Overall, enjoyable.
