Bomber. Sweet, Sticky and Thick. Lots of pine and caramel. Bitter finish with a mild alcohol burn. Tasty.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 rlaw (815) - Alabama, USA - FEB 23, 2012
Draft. Pours amber with a light tan head that leaves a good bit of lacing. Aroma is very grassy, some pine and citrus, fair amount of fruit, some toffee. Flavor is all that plus quite a lot of sweetness. Thick mouthfeel. Good, but I had it at the end of the evening and my palate was already pretty overwhelmed. Struck me as unbalanced, but barley wines ain’t supposed to be subtle, right? Very boozy.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Dogbrick (4842) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 20, 2012
Sample from a several years-old bottle at the Strange Brew Tasting on 02/18/2012. Label has the word "Vintage" with no year after it. Pours a clear auburn color with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, hops and dark fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of sweet toasty malt, caramel, ripe fruit and some pine. The finish is rich and malty with a lingering piney hops aftertaste. Good beer overall.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 JaBier (3249) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - FEB 20, 2012
Bottle shared by Dogbrick. Older vintage (blue label). Clear copper pour with a thick tan head. Malty nose consisting of caramel, chocolate, toffee, rum, fruit and earthy hops. Caramel and toffee character in the flavor first, then chocolate and roast before a rummy and nutty finish with a touch of grassy hops. Nice!
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 lawman357 (17) - Missouri, USA - FEB 20, 2012
Lovely ruby caramel color with a pretty off white head. Strong caramel sweet with a dry hoppiness to offset. Light alcohols on the nose and finish. This is the 2011 vintage.

Rich amber/cider color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of toasted sweet malt, caramel, hops, & ripe fruit; Flavor of sweet malt, caramel/toffee, some molasses, pine hops, fruit, and spice; Finish is slightly bitter with alcohol; Fairly well balanced; Overall, solid barley wine.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 beermanusa (77) - California, USA - FEB 19, 2012
Deep red with a buttercream head. Dry medicinal hops and caramel with some cardboard oxidation notes. The hops haven’t aged gracefully and the bready sweetness is a bit musty, but there are some tasty floral notes. Way to boozy and heavy, especially since its over a year old. It was pretty unbalanced and this was a bit of a chore to finish. Not the best barleywine I’ve had. This was unbalanced and overall pretty weak, but overall was pretty unoffensive. Maybe this is better fresh, but there are too many other barleywines that leave this in the dust for me to buy another

Bottle at home. Deep dark orange pour, thin off-white head. Aroma of sweaty American hops, somewhat floral and fruity. Flavor is quite bitter, somewhat alcoholic and with floral hops. Nice complex brew and well balanced.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 teddybeer (770) - Madrid, SPAIN - FEB 18, 2012
Sample at Alquitara. Brown colour with a good formation os tan head, creamy, frothy, nice lacing. Aroma has floral hops notes, resins and moderate malty. Flavour is slightly sweet at the beginning, moderate malty, alcoholic and a final moderate bittery. Good balanced. Carbonation is medium. Body is medium to high. Texture is oily. This beer is next to be an IPA or Imperial IPA than a Barley Wine.
