Commercial Description:
Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

Bottle poured a redish brown color with a small off white head. Aroma was major caramel and mild amounts of hops. The flavor was all caramel with a good bitterness and slightly sweet finish. The alcohol is hidden very well for such a young Barleywine. From what the brewer told me the years can be seen with a magnifying glass in the word "Vintage" and the slash in the paper marks that year.

Bottle. A deep reddish brown color with a thick foamy tan head. A strong hoppy (pine, grapefruit) sweet caramel full aroma. Rich caramel, floral and hoppy flavors with a long bitter aftertaste. Smooth, rich and tangy hop filled caramel finish. Quite nice.

Pours a clear ruby-brown color with a persistent light tan head. Decent hop and caramel aroma. No discernible alcohol aromas. Moderate grapefruity hop taste with some caramel sweetness in the middle. Slight citric bitter hop finish. Not as hoppy as some west coast barleywines, but still very enjoyable and tasty.

Last bottle from my visit to Oak Tree Liquors. Green Flash barleywine has a fruit-plum aroma, mahogany body and thick, pillowy head. When first opened the citrus bitterness had a sharp domination over the caramel malts. But as the bottle warmed a bigger, better, stronger flavors were evident. I suggest only chilling this barleywine to 50F. Two observations about the label; it stated this was a barelywine "style ale" and the word "vintage" was present but no date next to it. Not sure what the signifcance of either was on the label.

Mahogany pour with a smallish head, good lacing and retention. Aroma is caramel with PNW hops. Very piney and citrus notes here. Kinda interesting. The mouthfeel is fairly soft/creamy and the finish has a light sweetness with a tinge of alcohol and vanilla. Surprisingly easy to drink for a medium to heavy bodied beer.

2007 Vintage...

Date: 4/28/2007
Event: DarkLord Day 2007
Location: Evening tasting in jquire’s room at the Hampton Inn. Thank you for hosting Jeff!
Serving: 22 oz bottle (10% ABV) shared by TheBeerCellar2. Thanks!

Tasting Notes
Aroma: Sugary malt.
Appearance: Clear amber color with a foamy ivory head.
Flavor: Some maltiness, but much more bitterness.
Palate: Medium body. Tiny carbonation bubbles.
Overall: Every Green Flash beer that I have had so far has been very good or excellent and I’m sure this one would be too with a year or two of aging. It is far to young and bitter at the moment...

22 oz bottle. Pours cloudy brown color with full foamy brown head. Aroma sweet, malty and hoppy. Taste roasted malt, nutty and with bitter hoppy after taste.
