Commercial Description:
Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

Bottle, from trade with The_Beer_God. Good aroma, sweet & citrusy. tangerine, orange, little grass, toffee/caramel. Thought of a orange creamsicle as it warmed up. Tad hazed dark orangy brown color, that was a nice red when held up to light, small head, though I did pour slow, but solid head, faded slowly to a covering. Good lacing. Bittersweet flavor, Grapefruit & lime kick in on the citrus, got a little of a plastic scent that I get from some IPA’s & BW’s, grass, orange, caramel. Bit brash. Medium body, creamy oily smooth mouthfeel, bitterdry finish. Tasty barleywine, though flavor lost a little as it warmed and got kind ogf harsh. Aroma was also better cold. Still a nice one to have.

Bottle. Pours a ruby-copper body with a medium white soapy head. Cereal aroma with fruity, floral hops. Quite sweet and alcoholic. Tea bitterness. Not bad but a little one-dimensional and hot.

Strong malty aroma backed by some citrus hop. Ruby toned amber color with a white head that is minimalist. Starts with a full mouthfeel, sweet darkish malt, and strong citrus hop. It’s fairly balanced, and the hop bitterness is stronger in the finish than the case with many barleywines. Not excessively complex; straight forward. Very nice sipper.

Poured a dark orange with a whitish head good lacing. Aroma was of pine hops. Flavor was of caramel and pine hops lots, hint of toffee. Not bad but also not as complex as a lot of barleywines.

Pours an orange color with a nice white to off-white colored head, good retention, good lacing. Aroma was strong resinous pine notes, a touch of caramel. The flavor was tons of pine hops, firm caramel malts, some toffee, and tons of pine hops. Flavor highpoint was the non-invasiveness of the alcohol. Mouthfeel was fairly light for a barleywine, ample carbonation. Very simplistic, and overall a pretty weak (although not bad, per se) BW in my opinon.

Bomber, thanks to Blake for sharing! Poured a deep, bloody red with a short, level off-white head. Aroma picked up deep, well-toasted sweet caramel and dark fruity notes.. nice pine resin accents.. rather significant booze factor. Flavor had a bunch of dark fruit laced with diacetyl notes.. this was tasty, but came across as way too hot. Thick and boozy on the palate.. left longer, grainy pine resin notes on the lengthy finish. T’was OK. 7 3 6 3 13

Re-rate, bottled as "Second Anniversary Ale" from 2005, Bottle #23/6000. Poured a lovely shade of garnety-amber with a creamy cap of beige head. The aroma picked up toasted redder fruits and aged caramel accented by dry white pepper and oak character.. prickly alcohol hit the nose hairs in the back.. lovely presentation. The flavor showcased redder fruits at the core, using toasted caramel for support.. the hops were fairly well spent, but some fruity and a little cardboardey bitterness stuck on the edges.. juicy, sticky, warm fruits and peppery alcohol on the long, memorable finish. Heavier-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. warm on the palate, but well-balanced.. this aged very well.

22 ounce bomber purchased from Nugget on Covell in Davis, CA. Aroma is cardboardy, woody, and sour. Smells like green apples and I totally agree with grant’s assessment of this aroma. Virtually no hops in the aroma. Not very appealing. Transparent dark amber body with a nice off-yellowish head present. Fairly attractive stuff. Some caramelly malty sugary notes to start, which becomes burnt and roasted and grainy in the middle. THere is a lot of dry, bitter, puckering hoppiness to finish with a TON of booziness. This is very challenging to drink.
