Commercial Description:
Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

This had a small head.dark murky brown.Aroma was somewhat inviting of sweet caramel and biting green apple tart.It has a heavy body and malt taste.Very much a barley wine.I am not a big barley wine fan,so i didn’t enjoy this beer .The barley wine flavor is very strong.Kind of medicine taste, with a sweet caramel topper.Hard for me to drink this,as it is a heavy tasting beer.

Bottled as 2nd Anniversary Ale, number 4884/6000. Murky, opaque mahogany body with a sturdy tan head and sticky patch lace. Aroma is toffee, caramel, burnt brown sugar, and dark fruits. Creamy body is almost full bodied. Taste has some roast, dark fruits, molasses, grapefruit and pine hops and alcohol warming. More like a Belgian strong dark ale with serious hops bittering than a barleywine.

Aroma of sweet malt, some hoppiness, and some alcohol. A nice mahogany color. Man is this hoppy. Really not too balanced. Some sweet fruitiness, but a ton of hops. This is pretty much an IIPA. The beer has a lot of gumption. It attacks the palate. Fan - fucking - tastic!

Pretty deep amber with a hint of ruby, good head. Aroma of toffee and boiled grapefruit. Flavor was a significant load of toffee malts with a bitter, almost acrid, sour grapefruit hop finish. The individual components weren’t bad in and of themselves, but ultimately the toffee and grapefruit did not hang well with each other. Muddled.

(Bottle) Pours a mahogany body with a small creamy beige head. Aroma of pineapple, grapefruit, banana bread, caramel, and spices. Flavor of hops, bready malt, fruitiness, cocoa, and toffee with a somewhat bitter, dry finish.

Beer pours clear red amber color with a very large, totally retained beige colored head. Aroma is significantely piney, hoppy, also some caramel, faint licorice. The flavor is also rather greenly hoppy, with some nice malt caramel sweetness, but just a bit. A very hop forward barleywine, which is just fine by me.

22oz bottle, no date. How can I age this to see how each vintage evolves if I don’t know the friggin’ date? Pours a clear ruby brown with a two finger slowly fading beige head. When I first popped the cap all I could smell was tangerine and pineapple--not so much like a barleywine as an IIPA (reminded me of the hopslam I had earlier today). In my glass I also was able to get some raisins, maple syrup, caramel, toffee, and some alcohol. A very hoppy barleywine so far. Flavor has extremely hopped up tangerine, pineapple, and pine with toffee, caramel, and raisins comprising the malt backbone. This is still fairly lopsided with hops and bitterness. However, English Barleywines are usually ungodly sweet, so I’m not taking sides. Dry finish with some alcohol noted. Full body, not necessarily thick though. Carbonation is soft and moderate. This seems a lot like a IIPA (as far as I’m concerned) with a darker malt backbone. Green Flash knows their hops pretty well, and look forward to trying some more of their beers.
