Poured dark amber with a frothy off-white head that leaves some lacing. The aroma is very hoppy for a barley with some floral and some alcohol present. The flavor found a nice mixture of hop and malts that leaves a moderate bitterness throughout. Medium to full body. Definitely an American Barley! Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA

A mahogony pour with a gooy lacing. A light raisiny aroma. A smooth even palate with a touch of hops. Its not bad but it seemed a bit harsh to me for only 10%. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA

Although this is not the typical barley wine, I quite like it. Hazy ruby, good sized off white head---unusual for a barley wine. Aroma is citrus, floral, nice hops. Flavor is hops, fruit (plum, pear, kiwi), malt, herbal. ogglethorp (887), Ohio, USA

Pours a dark reddish sepia brown with a thin beige head. Huge amounts of caramel and molasses. The bitterness is slightly off balance as it is much too pronounced in a harsh way, and not a balancing way. drewbeerme (2272), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 3, 2007 Updated: Aug 29, 200922oz bottle, 2006 bottle i think 2-4months old. poured a beautiful ruby with small tan head. nose is loaded with PNW hop flavor w/notes of fruit punch, grapefruit, kiwi, and piney. strangely the nose gets very muted with sharp citrus and phenols after a while. the malt also contributes dark fruits to the nose. malt profile is pretty simple and predictable, toasted malts, cookie, loads of caramel, chocolate, balanced nicely with a healthy bitterness, and piney hop flavor. mouthfeel is smooth and sticky, alcohol is well hidden at first but once my tongue got used to the hop bitterness i started tasting the sweet alcohol more. carbonation is low. this beer seems to get more messy as i drink it and the flaws eventually own up. but this is tasty on a 3degreeF night even if it’s nothing too special. sorta strange but i loved it at first, noticed lots of flaws in the middle, and finding it tasty again near the end.3.8.
11/7/08, 2 year old 22oz bottle. faded hop aroma, doughy malts, still has some vibrant carbonation but just isnt very complex. i wouldn’t age this.3.5.
