CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Mar 28, 2009 Crushed with Jakebra and my man Cornelius. Interesting barley wine. Nothing amazing here. But it’s still pretty damn good. Lots of hops, good balance. A sipper but very pleasant. Definitely aight. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Mar 20, 2009 Good sized orange/brown head of fine and dense bubbles. Big hoppy aroma with lots of spruce, caramel malts, a bit of roastyness and some mint. Maybe some raisins too. Color is a deep crimson brown. Strong roastyness and bitterness. More spruce and some grapefruit rind. Not very complex flavor. Noticable alcohol presence that warms as it goes down and a bit nasal. Medium bodied. Finishes malty and bitter with a lingreing roastyness and grainyness. An ok barleywine but not very complex or smooth. Jukkabro (2981), Tampere, Finland Mar 20, 2009 Red-brown colored with little yellow head. Raisins dominate this aroma with toffee and chocolate. Medium to full bodied. Flavor starts with overly sweet raisinny tone, aftertaste has strong hops, still sweetness lasts. Well, sweet and hopped, not too balanced still. Crit (2398), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada Mar 15, 2009 Hazy red brown, tan head.Nose of molasses & alcohol.Rich toffee profile, medium alcohol heat, good hop presence. Good lace
I like it daknole (2802), Plantation, Florida, USA Mar 8, 2009 Bottle. Pours a nice brown color with an offwhite head. Aroma is malty and has a strong hop presence. I get hints of caramel, citrus and some malty notes. Not as much caramel, toffee and such as I normally like in a BW. Flavor is quite hoppy and lacks the full body and flavor that i look for in a BW...but this is a well crafted brew. Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Mar 7, 2009 Bomber courtesy of Indulgence. Pours a clear dark amber with a 2 finger beige head that leaves nice lacing. The nose is caramel and dark fruits with light floral hops. The taste is caramel, brown sugar, sweet dark fruits and some citrus hops on the finish. Medium body – decent BW. Thanks Tom! FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 5, 2009 Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark chestnut color with a large orange-tan head. The aroma was dry, harsh and bitter fruity and floral hops with a touch of cherry. The flavor was bitter and harsh with fruity hops and sour, nutty malts. There was a hint of molasses underneath. The finish was long, bitter and harshly hoppy. The mouthfeel was moderately thick. Enjoyable if unspectacular. jsh12bama (335), Alabama, USA Feb 27, 2009 Pours reddish brown with thick off white head. Nice lacing. Aroma of caramel, floral hops, and malt. Taste is heavy with toffee, caramel, and nice hoppy bite. Alcohol burn present in the finish. Very thick mouthfeel. Caramel malt coats the tongue. Very good.
