COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

Pours a dark brownish ruby red color with a finger and a half dark tan head that dissipates somewhat slowly and leaves a thick ring of lacing. Smells of lots of carmel and toffee, lots of bready notes from the malt, raisin, some brown sugar, a little dankness from the hops, as well as some grapefruit and pine. Thought there would be more hops on the nose. Taste starts with some resinous hop qualities such as grapefruit, pine, and orange rind. Then in the middle the hop qualities take a back seat to the malts. Lots of carmel, toffee, breadiness, some molasses or brown sugar. Then the finish is more of the heavy malt presence: lots of sweetness and breadiness, as well as raisin, but more of the resinous hops show through as well. More complex hops flavors show through on the end such as floral, grass, and resin. Some booze on the finish that provides a warming sensation on the way down. Tastes very much like Bells This One Goes to 11 when it warms, as the hops show through much more. A pretty full body with a thick, creamy, and oily mouthfeel. Have had better American barleywines, but still decent.

Jimthechap (1879) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 26, 2015
Peachy amber colour, creamy head and some haze in this beer. The nose suggests barley wine with mellow hoppiness in excess of an English equivalent. Peachy orchard-fruit and fresh alcohols lay over the top of deep complex maltiness. The body is thick and oily and offers lush fruits, dates, caramel and peaches. It has wonderful depth and maturity that suggests flavours of sherry or brandy. It gives a full mouthfeel and a sense of lingering wonder. Some tumeric spice on the finish. Delicious.

Vintage 2011. It poured a clear dark amber color with an off-white head. The aroma was malty with some caramel, raisins, licorice and citrus hops. The taste was of caramel and roasted bitterness. It had a medium to full body with a light sticky texture. Good stuff.

Syrupy caramely aroma with hints of hops. In the taste the bitterness overthrow the maltiness which shouldn’t be in a barley wine.

Bottle 0,65l, clear amber color with small white head. Strong aroma of cherry brandy, raisins honey but also with some notes of cooked vegatables. in taste medium sweetnes, good balanced with medium sourness and bitterness from amarican hopps in the end. Good drinkable, but alcohol could be better hidden.

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2014 This one is pretty impressive. Hazy brown colour, big head with a full lace and crown that leaves forever. Smell of Pine, allspices, cardamom or clove, citrus, brandy, tobacco, wood (oak?)... Not thick and not light in the palate, not too mauch carbonation, it feels really good. Taste is just like the aroma, maybe with some hints of chocolate and dark fuits and a bit more sweet., though bitterness and sweetness come and go on the same level.Very good indeed. Maybe if I can get another one I’ll give a perfect ten. I stand corrected by myself, it’s a perfect ten.

MadRobin (2222) - Silver Spring, USA - OCT 19, 2014
Poured from 22 oz. bottle after cellaring for over 22 months. Murky, dark copper with a 3-finger khaki head and very good lacing. Aroma of caramel, booze, citrus, pine resin, orange and bread. Taste of citrus, pine resin, caramel, toffee, whiskey, floral hops and plums. Full body high/medium carbonization. This is a big beer. The hops, alcohol and maltiness all come through strongly even after nearly 2 years of aging. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

toffee (surprising given their rep for hoppy beers). Theres more hops in the nose than the flavor. This was the newest batch but tasted as if it had a year or so of age on it. Nice warming finish, and complex. Very good, but not one of the best."

pretty damn impressive looking. had a dirt brown thing goin on in tha color dept. kinda smelled like dirt and malts, like the dirt floor in the basement of a barn. I was pretty damn impressed at the body as it was full and malty and even nutty. very subtle for the amount of alcohol in it. i give it respect

2012 Bomber from Tacoma boys. Pours a dark reddish brown. Tan head. Scent is a little boozy, caramel. Taste is sweet, spicey. Finish is oakey. Still pretty intense even after a few years.
