Commercial Description:
Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

2nd Anniversary Bottle 22 oz bottle # 926/6000, purchased at beverages and more soon after I moved to San Diego a Year and Half Ago. Its been sitting in my fridge ever since. After popping the top the bottle popped some bubbles and then poured smootly. Pours a nice rich amber with a mellow tan head that sits nicely on top of the brew. The nose is smokey and full of toffee and caramel. The taste is big and bold with toffee that fills the mouth. The aftertaste is quite bitter and doesn’t have that throat warming quality that I enjoy so much when it comes to barley wines. Certainly not the best barley wine I’ve had, but not the worst either, reminds me of Alpine Great.

Bottled, bought in Vejle. Clear amber color, short head. Aroma is very hoppy, some caramel malt, hint of toffee and citrus. Very hopbitter taste, malty body. Not a typical example of the style I guess, but nevertheless nicely balanced and good.

Bottle. Pours a nice brown color with an offwhite head. Aroma is malty and has a strong hop presence. I get hints of caramel, citrus and some malty notes. Not as much caramel, toffee and such as I normally like in a BW. Flavor is quite hoppy and lacks the full body and flavor that i look for in a BW...but this is a well crafted brew.

At the 2007 Big Beer, Belgians, & Barleywines Festival in Vail. Pours a dark reddish sepia brown with a thin beige head. Huge amounts of caramel and molasses. The bitterness is slightly off balance as it is much too pronounced in a harsh way, and not a balancing way.

Small offwhite head. Deep red body with vigourous carbonation. Deep firm raisiny malty aroma with roasty caramelly hoppy notes. Dry-sweet roasty wooden malty raisiny taste with grassy hoppy peppery notes. Full body. Some alcohol heat. Dry wooden grassy roasty aftertaste with pine needle notes. Very, very good. (0.65l bottle. Not sure who from.)

650 ml. bottle. Vintage 2008. Pours out in a clear reddish amber colour with a frothy and lasting off-white foam. Caramel, figs, toffee, dates, resin and orange-peels in the surprisingly malty aroma. Full-bodied with notes of caramel, dates, pin-needles, grass, grapefruit and resin. Thick, chewy and dense mouthfeel. Long bitter finish of grapefruit, resin and pine-needles with a sticky caramely malt-base in the background.
