COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

Pours a chestnut color with a decent head that settles to a film and has good lacing. Aroma of toffee and fruits like figs. Taste is initially sweet with a medium bitter and spiciness from the alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium and is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Could benefit from some aging to drop some of the hops out and bring other flavors to the fore. ---Jeremy H

2012 vintage. Deep amber color, creamy tan head. Aroma is full of dried apricots, papaya, floral and slightly herbal hop notes and creamy caramel, almost vanilla-like. Slight milk chocolate notes. Sweet, heavily malty body, round caramel texture. Finishes resiny bitter, but well balanced. Medium to full body, slightly oily texture. Really nice.

On first pour, it glows with a rich, reddish amber colour, and a lacy white head top. I sniffed this beer like some people sniff flowers (I unfortunately am allergic to pollen). I took in a lot of deep malty scents, and hops, and...that’s about it. But not in a bad way, this brew smelled righteous, knowing ahead of time that something big was going to happen. It’s like a referee calling a penalty shot in overtime, going in for the big sip was the shot, and the overall taste determined whether or not the deke attempt worked. Taking the first sip, I expected a train wreck of malty hops. However, I was greeted by a strong, pleasant malty tone, followed by a nice transition into an intense malty flavour, and a crisp, clean after taste. I was so impressed by the after taste, the clean-ish feeling that I got, that it made me want more. This is finally a brew over 10% that will leave you wanting more! Imagine Datsyuk with a highlight reel goal on a breakaway...naturally you’d want more (so long as he’s not scoring on your team). The first, middle, and end tastes are phenomenal. There are no complaints, as everything flows together, while still leaving a memorable taste that would definitely make me want to order this again. If you (or your friends) are new to barleywines, this is a definite first step into the world of 10%+ beers.

2013 Bottle, enjoyed Feb ’14. Bright auburn pour with nice depth. A thick finger of creamy beige head and light lacing. Nose is sweet and sturdy. Caramel, florals, toffee, and faint chocolate. Similar in the taste, but more emphasis on the floral hops. Rich and decadent, but without the overt sweetness sometimes used to add weight. I guess what I’m trying to say is the focus on hops and caramel malts is well executed and fully appreciated.

Bottle from Benz. Dark, hazy amber beer, thick orange head. Very strong, alcoholic nose. The flavor has lots of malt, and lots of grassy and hay hops. Bitter finish with a good dose of alcohol warmth. Closer to double IPA than barleywine, some rough edges but a good beer.

Bottle bought some place I can’t remember. 2012 vintage. Pours dark copper brown with a frothy beige head that leaves lots of sticky trace and lacing on the glass. Smell is sweet, malty and tiny earthy with caramel, sweet dark bread, resinous wood, moist grass, alcohol, toffee, pine needles, grapefruit rinds, orange peal, moist soil and hints of dark honey. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty, herbal and earthy with sweet dark bread, caramel, prominent alcohol, toffee, citrus peal and zest, golden syrup, dark honey, pine needles, freshly cut grass, resin, burnt sugar and soil. Mouthfeel is round, tiny sticky sweet, oily bitter, boozy, astringent and near full bodied. Finish is heavy bitter and earthy with sweet dark bread, caramel, alcohol, grapefruit rinds, pine needles, resinous wood and soil. A punch in the face that makes you want to turn the other cheek.
