Commercial Description:
Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

(500ml bottle) Thanks to TiggMTL for sharing this beer. Medium, frothy almond head with a deep red body. Nose of a Hi-C IPA. Flavour of an Imperial IPA. Bitter whiskey notes, malt and the Hi Pine of the West Coast - Yahoo! I am a hop’n cowboy!

Pours a nice clear reddish amber. Aroma is very hoppy. Flavor is full of rich, chewy malts and lots of hops. Alcohol is moderate. This is more like a DIPA with dark food coloring. Nonetheless, very tasty.

Bottle courtesy of Naven. I had this right after it was released and didn’t take notes but remember it being much hoppier. Remember enjoying it a lot. Hops have mellowed into a very drinkable BW w/ a malty flavor w/ a hint of hops. Possibly a little watered down. Past it’s prime?

Perfumey floral, aroma, all from esters, you can also detect a sugary sweetness in the nose, taste is a carmelly smooth sweetnesswith a big hop bitter finish almost excessive, wheat or rye slightly detectable, touch of toffee and hot alcohol. Taste was great, but the finish detracts. Thanks Kingpin

Pours a three finger very light tan head that fades slowly, leaving a good lace. Cloudy amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Burnt molasses nose. Flavor is molasses and caramel with a disappointing bitter finish. $6.80 for a 22oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

Best thing about this one is the aroma. which was a big wet hop orgy with some tobacco notes. Pour was chesnut with a small tan head and decent lace. Flavor is not as impressive, muted with hops up front with the alcohol, a bit messy. Still nice, although I don’t think I would age it too long.

pours a muddy brown with a fine layer of tan foam.Sweet maltiness is the major hit with some dark fruits on the side. Also rich in toffee.A nice brew with a lingering flavor of caramel.

(Draft: Liars’ Club in San Diego, CA) Several months ago, I rated the 1st and 2nd Anniversary Ales side by side, but lost the notes, so now I’m doing a solo tasting of this beer. But I can definitely say this is a bolder, more intense beer than last year’s Anniversary Ale. Very flavorful, sweet, malty, and mildly roasty flavor is balanced by a strong bitterness and fresh tasting hoppiness. The nose is sweet, malty and hoppy. The bubbly, light tan head and deep ruddy brown color make for an attractive beer out of the tap. The head fades to a film with several large bubbles providing some contour to the head. Plenty of spiderweb lace is left on the glass. On the cusp between American Strong Ale and Double IPA. I like this a lot. I didn’t think Green Flash had it in ’em. Nicely done, guys! But between the strong flavor of this beer, and my spicy Cajon fries (which I had to eat after rating this beer, and they were cold by then), I won’t be able to taste anything for a few days.
