Nate (2466), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 24, 2007 On tap at Mad Mex, Robinson. Mild alcoholic estery aroma. Fruity, mild acetone or ethyl acetate, very aromatic and addictive but odd. Fumes, a lot of fumes. Deep brown-amber clear with a bit of haze. Thin tannish head. Heavy body, watery with a bit of silkiness to it. Mild carbonation. Starts with a lot of acetone and ethyl acetate vapors, alcohol and sharp sweetness. Fruity. Quite a mix of chemically sharp compounds, sweet with some molasses and licorice. Good hit of bitterness in the finish, with nice bitter and sweet balances. After is dry and bitter, with estery lingering burn. Harsh, but a nice barley wine.
mgermani (810), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jun 26, 2009 Pours a cloudy ruby with a wall of lace, as my friend CapnCascade puts it. Sweet fruity aroma - dates and toffee. Quite a strong malty taste - could have sat around for another year or two. Astringent strong malting with definite presence of alcohol and lingering hops with the alco-burn. Thin body with decent fine carbonation. Love the finish - nice dry hops and complex, yet not cloying sweet malting win the game, as it were. dmschefke (236), Eastpointe, Michigan, USA Jun 22, 2009 Pours a nice dark gold with thick off-white head. Aroma strong of caramel malt, citrus hops, and a bit of spices. Flavor is dominated by the alcohol and sweetness. Not my cup of tea. mattmc1973 (239), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Jun 21, 2009 Shared at Kuhnhenn Summer Solstice. Poured into a snifter, brown with a thin beige head. Aroma is hot and boozy, with sweet malt, dark fruit, and very bitter grassy hops. Taste is caramel, hops, and alcohol. Medium mouthfeel. Pretty good, but a bit too hot on the booze. curly (412), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jun 16, 2009 Dark brown pour with a tan head. Aroma is alcohol and raisin. Smooth and very rich texture with dark fruit and sweet malt and a bitter roast finish. gaffandbleed (12), California, USA Jun 15, 2009 Alcoholic caramel toffee blast. Intense flavor. Pours caramel. If you don’t like caramel this won’t go down well. Tasty, but not very drinkable, one is enough for the night. dogfish120love (226), west hartford, Connecticut, USA Jun 11, 2009 "Green Flash Second Anniversary" according to the bottle shared at PPSG09. Poured a cloudy brown with pretty much no head. Aroma is brown sugar oatmeal and caramel. Flavor is a little to sweet for me but it is still very good, candy apple coating heavy on the sugar. LilBeerDoctor (1291), East Setauket, New York, USA Jun 4, 2009 Labeled as "2nd Anniversary." Bottle at PPRBSG09. Pours a cloudy brown with a small white head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt. Flavor is super sweet, with some roasted malt and vegetal notes. Very heavy on the palate. It seems that this one has not held up over time. Ugh, not a fan.
6/4/6/3/12 (3.1/5) Alldaydrinker (553), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA Jun 4, 2009 2008 Vintage Bomber. Pours a deep ruby brown hazy color with a small off white head. Nose is luscious and enticing, dark fruits, caramel, pine, resin hop character. Initial taste is sweet, chewy and lots of caramel. Touch of alcohol heat topped with dark fruits, raisins and plum becoming more apparent. Mid palate to finish displays the gritty resin hop that balances the beer. Light to medium body. Above average palate duration. Excellent head retention and spot lacing. Very enjoyable.
