COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Candela (Rye Barleywine): Collaboration: The collaborative efforts between Cigar City Brewing and Green Flash Brewing eventually went down a path with the idea that the resulting brew should not only be a very special brew but also one that will go nicely with a great American cigar…a green wrapper Candela. Technical Description: So massive is this Rye Barleywine after a long and intensive boil that it envelops the 75 IBU of hops given it. The super rich qualities of this brew come from the best British floor-malted, pale barley available. Top quality specialty malts that add to its opulent body include British Crystal and German Rye. Spanish cedar lends wood aging with a depth of dark mahogany and a hint of Szechuan peppercorn spice that cuts the luxurious malt sweetness. With a beer this rich and decadent you may indeed, “Have A Cigar”. Cheers from, Chuck Silva & Wayne Wambles

On draft at THE LOCAL B EER BAR in Eureka, CA. Came in the glass a dark amber with an off-white head. The nose is dark ripe fruit and roasted carmel malts. Medium in body with a smooth mouth feel. Alcohol is well hidden. Flavor shows lots of the dark fruit, rye is present and it finishes sweet. Very tasty.

On tap at Sam’s, Durham. Another sweet one showing up unexpectedly. Semi-cloudy mahogany pour with a thick, lustrous head. Strong caramel and rye malt in the nose, with some resinous grapefruit hops and notes of pepper. Whoa, a big’un. Smooth palate, with just the right touch of heat and spice. Hugely hoppy in places, which provides a nice contrast to the potent malts, and the spice is perhaps even a touch under-accentuated. Very good.

On tap at the Moth. Dark amber pour with an off-white head. The aroma is full of dark fruit and caramel notes, as well as some rye. The flavor is more of the same. I get quite a bit of spicy rye notes, as well as some caramel, toffee and dark fruit. As expected from a Cigar City beer, I also get some nice cedar notes. The alcohol is definitely noticeable. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

On tap at Flying Saucer DT Memphis. Nice copper/red appearance. Smooth. Warm mouth feel and good malt taste. Could really taste the cedar aging which surprised me since I didn’t know much about the beer. Will seek it out in Tampa.
