COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Candela (Rye Barleywine): Collaboration: The collaborative efforts between Cigar City Brewing and Green Flash Brewing eventually went down a path with the idea that the resulting brew should not only be a very special brew but also one that will go nicely with a great American cigar…a green wrapper Candela. Technical Description: So massive is this Rye Barleywine after a long and intensive boil that it envelops the 75 IBU of hops given it. The super rich qualities of this brew come from the best British floor-malted, pale barley available. Top quality specialty malts that add to its opulent body include British Crystal and German Rye. Spanish cedar lends wood aging with a depth of dark mahogany and a hint of Szechuan peppercorn spice that cuts the luxurious malt sweetness. With a beer this rich and decadent you may indeed, “Have A Cigar”. Cheers from, Chuck Silva & Wayne Wambles

Tap at CCB. Pours a deep red with little head. Big cherry, rye spice aroma. Thick body, spicy, chocolate, cedar and boozy. Really complex and tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark amber pour with very sweet caramel and slight booze on then nose. Dark fruit and moderate to heavy sweetness pervade throughout with an ester and smokey/spicy finish

On tap at the brewery. Amber red in color with a good sized cream colored head. Aroma is of toffee, caramel, rye, cedar plank, raisin, some nutty notes, tropical fruits and citrus. Taste is of rye, light leather, cedar, pine, juicy orange, toffee, booze, caramel and a firm resinous bitterness in the finish.

Tap @ Green Flash. Pours a hazy brown with minimal head. Aroma is caramel, dark fruits with some woody humidor in there as well. Taste is a blast of dry wood, tastes like cigar city humidor beers. Not a fan of those, not a fan of this.

On tap at Dexters, pours a clear dark brown red with a light brown head and spotty lacing, the aroma is of spice and sweetness with a lot of caramel and malt, huge sweetness on the nose, the flavor follows right behind it, tons of caramel and sweetness, abv isn’t hidden all that much either, big beer, and it doesn’t hide it at all.

Location: Draft at Hay Merchant, 2/17/14

Aroma: The nose is spice/rye malts, caramel, toffee, some booze, and a little fruit
Appearance: It pours a darker brown color with a small beige head and average lace
Flavor: It has a spicy malty flavor, with a light sweetness and a light bitterness to it
Palate: It has a medium-full body, soft carbonation, and a sticky/spicy finish
Overall Impression: Not bad, but I wanted a better beer from a collaboration of these two breweries. The components you would expect from it were present, but the combination only worked okay for me.

Interesting barley wine by two great brewers. Darkish amber pour. Nose had a lot of wood and rye spice. The taste had more dark fruit and a brown sugar wallop over the big maltiness. Fairly heavy and low carbonation. Well hidden abv.

Pour on tap at Parry’s Pizza, thick dark brown pour with thin to no tan head, aroma brought sugary dark fruits into some big oak, woody notes, slight spicy whiskey notes come through but the sugar really overtakes this brew. Taste is a mix of sugary dark fruits, caramel, and molasses, hints of grass, earth and spice, slight wood and oak, whiskey come through, finishing sweet, sugary. Good but hard to drink more than a few oz of it, very syrupy.

On tap at the barrel-aged tasting at World Of Beer-Cherry Creek in Denver, CO during GABF week. Light brown pour. Distinct aroma of cedar and rye. The flavor is rounded out with caramel, toffee, and tangerine with the cedar giving this a unique flavor and the rye just the right amount of sweetness to bring it all together. A great collaboration.

On draft at Tap 25. It pours an amber brown color with a khaki head. The aroma is really nice and intense with fresh cherries, plum, raisins and a cedar, herbal note. The flavor is full and sweet with the perfect amount of herbal, woody bitterness to balance the huge rich sweetness. Maple syrup, cherry, fig and raisins. Awesome sweet nectar. It has a sweet, minty herbal bitterness in the finish. Amazing stuff.

Copper color in the glass....chili’s and cedar aging give good depth of flavor. Alcohol is well hidden
