Tap @ Binny’s LP Tasting room, tulip: pours near opaque with a nice lasting head and very good lace. Lovely brew with just the right amount of heat versus roast and char. Not overly grassy or veggie like most of these peppered beers can be. Hint of chocolate, coffee, and tobacco as well. This is very well executed.

Surprised to see this was an IS, the alcohol was well hidden though this is not a super high IS. On tap at Tap and Mallet. Very well done. But I had to keep swigging Anne’s Three Heads beer when the chili’s overpowered my buds. Nose is licorice, smoky, and charred malt. Dark thick palate. Nicely balanced by the peppers that truly acted like peppers can do, they crept up on you. Not overdone but spicy.

Growler from taproom, Mira Mesa, San Diego. Aroma: Chilis, green/red peppers, roasty aromas Apperance: Dark brown/black, light brown -> beige foam, disapears quickly into thin blondes on glass. Taste: Really good chili pepper taste, almost smoky - like the chilis were smoked before adding, some malt sweetness and chocolate flavors that are camoflaged a bit behind the pepper & chili taste/aroma. Finish: Nice Chili warmth - not to much, maybe some alcohol warmth (8,8%) Overall: I love this beer. Perfect beer for chili-lovers. The chili & pepper aromas and taste balances so greatly with the roasty & chocolate flavors. The base stout does a really great job with the chilis!

Huge pepper aroma going on here. Finishes super spicy with some bitterness. Spice overtakes some of more subtle elements of stout, but this makes for a well done spicy stout if that’s your thing. Tap at Snallygaster.

"Really like the base, like serranos, so pretty excited here. What lacked in aroma did not in flavor. Intense pepper without covering the base beer or being TOO hot. Thick black pour and body. Heavily roasted with some twang. Loved the combo."

Tap at CBC 2014. Beer in the glass deep black, nice head. Heavy malty, earthy aroma. Starts intense malty, quite dry, notes of pepper and chili, not too intense. Finish surprisingly well balanced. Nice!

Draft. Black pour with tan head. Strong chilli aromas, some chocolate ad roasted undertones. Chocolate plus chilli, not much else to it.

September 29th, 2012 - Through no fault of their own, I exchanged American currency for a sample of Green Flash’s Serrano Double Stout. No doubt pepper based beer connoisseurs have grand things to see about this beer, but I couldn’t find it. The smell is a curious medley of green bell pepper, freshly cooked jalapeños and cheap tobacco - in sum, a 7-11. And the taste is the same. I’m actually baffled. Between the flavors of cheesy jalapeño poppers and a slight smokiness, this is all the taste of those high school 7-11 slushes runs from so long ago, which is to say, disagreeable drinking.

On tap at CBC 2014. Dark brown with light beige head. Aroma of chili, coffee and roasted notes. Taste is pretty spicy with lots of chili, roasted notes, green chili. Tasty

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown/black with garnet glints. Large dark tan head. Aroma is quite chili. Nearly full bodied. Flavor is chocolate and chili. It seems somewhat earthy. Hot, but far from "Crime". Finishes rather dry, and delicious.
