Draught at the Tasting Room in San Diego. Roasted biscuit aroma, chocolate, figs, chilli, licorice notes. Woody chilli flavor, licorice, quite spicy. Nice effort but a bit too much chilli for me.

On tap too much heat for a beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Did not even know this existed. Found on a Firkin at Good Dog. Nearly opaque pour (though appeared a clear orange brown around the ends). Low carbonation and no head at all. Pungent chillies and dark fruit off the top. Lots of full deep pepper notes, like nothing I’ve ever had. Spicy certainly, but it’s not overwhelming and the flavors of the pepper itself are up front - which is highly unusual. Rich dark chili pepper taste. Some intreaging smokiness as well. Quite interesting. Have had several beers with Chili peppers to bring in some bite, but none where all the flavors seem to originate from the Chilis themselves. Lots of dark plummy flavors in here to balance the increasing heat of those petulant Scovilles. Having it in a low carbonated firkin clearly helps make it fruit forward. Could see it getting overpowering in heat otherwise. Note that this is so not my style of beer but I appreciate it and actually like it quite a lot!

On tap at Dexters, pours black with a brown head and lacing in the glass, the aroma is roasty with some green pepper at first that is really sweet but it turns up the heat a little more when it warms, the flavor has a front end of lots of pepper and spice, not overwhelming but just enough to tell its there, doesn’t completely overpower the stout and the base beer still shows, nice.

pitch black color. The nose doesn’t have such a prominent chilli character and is a bit subdued but the mouth is burst with fudge, dark chocolate character with pepper lightly hitting the back of your throat. Really nice balance on chocolate and chilli pepper. Lingering chocolate finish with pepper just lingering.

Black, Medium body, as piquant as Indian food, alcohol contributing to palate and balance but not in evidence. Sweet to start, mild bitterness follows, Interesting, more than delicious. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at 10 East. I was pretty excited to try this, as I really enjoy the standard version of Double Stout. I love beer that incorporate chili peppers in them so this should be exceptional! It was good, but the chili pepper character in the aroma was non-existant and the character in the beer was extremely restrained, like a chili pepper stout for babies. The greatness of the base beer was lessened with this addition.

Draft at brewery. Pours black with a khaki head and lots and lots of sticky khaki head coating the glass. Prominent roasted chili pepper on the nose. The chocolate is more forward but the peppers are there as well. It’s not a heat bomb by any means but there’s a nice hint of heat on the finish which does build a bit as you drink but not to the point it starts to numb things. Very nice!

Draft at Logans Alley, aromas of fresh serranos and bitter coffee, nice blend of spice and bitter chocolate. Lingering heat on the finish, VERY nice.
