Golden naked oats mashed with dark crystal and robust roasted malts create a luscious black brew with a satin smooth finish. Layering UK Target hops in the boil adds a pleasant, earthy complexity while higher fermentation temperatures enhance the overall flavor with fruity esters. An old-world style, done the Green Flash way. Big, bold, flavorful and complex – Double Stout.

It’s a very good, no frills strong stout. This beer doesn’t try to do anything fancy. The appearance is simple, black liquid and brown creamy head. Chocolate, coffee and roasted malt flavors are strong in the beer’s aroma. The flavor is rich and just nails my notion of the style. I’m not saying that it’s my very favorite stout, but it’s a superbly made stout. The feel is excellent, creamy and smooth.

On tap at Pizza Port (Solana Beach, CA): Pours black with a thick brown foamy head. Roasted malts in the nose as well as dark chocolate and some alcohol. Taste is similar with some added earthy hops and licorice that leaves an incredibly sweet and balanced mouthfeel with a delicate bitter hop finish. Drinkability: Heavy, not thick, smooth and creamy. Dark chocolate stands out. Pairing: Meat pie. Rebuy: Definitely. #288 on 25022010, DG.

UPDATED: SEP 14, 2011 Bomber. Black coffee colored with an inch of thick cappuccino head. Aroma is sweet roasted malt and Kahlua. Taste begins with strong toasted malt sweetness and caramel followed by bittersweet chocolate and coffee liqueur. It finishes slightly dry and smoky with some mild coffee bitterness. The overall flavor is sweet, smooth and silky.

Rich aroma of molasses, dark chocolate and raisons. Deep black color, nice belgian lace on the glass. Full and complex on the tongue. Flavors of burnt toast & espresso. Sweet mouthfilling malt, dry bitter roasted malts and bitter hops play in the finish.

I smuggled this one back from OR in my luggage. Opaque with a tan head. The nose brings roasted grain, chocolate and mild coffee notes. Intro is rich after the bubbles dissipate. Plenty of coffee and molasses come forward while bit of bakers chocolate hiding behind. This brew shows the complexity you can bring from roasted grain without going off the deep end. The hops do their job to sop up all the RS that was left behind after fermentation. A wonderful example of a properly made double stout. Green Flash Brewing Co. does it again!

Bottle. Pours a black beer with a lightbrown head. The aroma is roasted, licorice and coffee. The flavor follows the nose with chocolate and some bitterness. The palate is bitter and roasted. Overall a good beer.
