4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 ounce bottle purchased 16 months ago. Pours pitch black with a finger and a half of lovely mocha brown foam. Aroma of big smoky roasted malts, bacon, leather, and lighter notes of chocolate. Flavor is rich roasted malts with a hint of sweetness, creamy chocolate, some dark fruity flavors, and a hint of smoke/ash (but not as much as the nose would imply). Finish is very smooth while being lightly sweet and lightly roasty-bitter. Nicely balanced with well-hidden alcohol. Did the aging bring out the more smoky elements in the nose and taste? I don’t know, but this is a really excellent stout. (453, 407)

Wonderful roasted and chocolate aroma. Beatiful jet black color with dark tan foamy head. Tasting this beer completed the trifecta. Wonderful melange of chocolate, malt and hop flavors. Delicious and highly recommended.

Shared bottle courtesy of Gunnar. Finger thick brown head on a black body. Chocolate sauce, coffee, cappuccino on the nose. In the mouth a complex of coffee, chocolate and dark dried fruits with cellar and roasted notes. Sweetness and bitterness is well balanced. Full bodied. Smooth. An absolute delight.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Rich chocolate malt nose, bordering on syrupy. Green coffee bean flavor, highly roasty yet with herbal undertones. Very rich, yet deceivingly drinkable. I was shocked this was pushing 9% abv, this drinks like a 5% abv stout. Dangerously delicious. 2010 Western Illinois University Performing Arts Society Beerfest.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From the 22 fl. oz. bomber. The pour is an opaque black with a dark brown frothy two inch head that dissolves and leaves a light lacing along the way. The aroma is full of roasted to burnt chocolate malts, grains, oats, and raisin yet it is more subtle than some in its class. The body has a heavy but oily feel. The complex aroma tickles the nose with every sip for an experience that balances the taste of cooked chocolate malts with throat-soothing hops and a clean finish. Recommended.

Big bottle from Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam. Pours pitch black with a nice looking 2 inch dark tanned, and nice frothy head. The aroma is top notch, with some lovely milk chocolate, roasted malts, coffee and vanilla. Taste is rich and full off the same, with coffee and caramel in the front seat. Oily and slick mouthfeel. Smooth and full bodied. Ends dry and bitter, what a lovely brew!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasted from 22oz bottle at Lush Roscoe. Pours an opaque nearly black with an average tan head that leaves a thin collar. The nose is sweet molasses with roasted malt (I can actually smell the oats), burnt brown sugar, milk chocolate, a hint of coconut, and a bit of alcohol burn. The flavor is super dark oats, dark chocolate, and coffee. The sweetness that I expected from the nose is not quite as strong. The body is full with light carbonation and a very long roasted and chocolate finish.

Bomber. Pours thick and very dark brown, opaque, with a medium-sized dark brown head. Aromas of roasted coffee and cocoa, milk chocolate, molasses, raisin, and slight wood. Bitter roasty cocoa flavor, espresso, bitter chocolate, and vanilla. Long, bitter mocha finish. Low/medium carbonation, creamy, rich, and dry. Very nice; rich, smooth, and well-balanced.
