4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hey, first foreign stout rating! And what a way to familiarise myself with this beer style, this is really superb stuff. In the glass it looks black, with a creamy, medium brown head that ends up as a fully covering thin layer and a good deal of lacing. Strong aroma that is rather sweet, but also with something dusty and dry in the back. Roasted notes, dark chocolate and coffee. The strong flavours follow the aroma, with some additional fruity notes and herbal hints. Moderate to light sweet taste with a long, rather heavy bitter finish. Lovely creamy to oily texture, full body, very soft carbonation. Some dryness in the finish.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from 12 oz bottle 10 minutes removed from refrigeration. Black with light tan head that sticks around for a short time. Nose not too strong, chocolate-raspberry notes. Flavor opens with slight sweetness and strong roasted grains. As moderate effervescence decays, flavor opens to blackened white meat with a hint of teriyaki/sourdough bread-type tanginess. Finish is a big more alcohol-forward than I prefer, and carries more hoppy dryness than the 45 IBU belies. A pleasant stout, which would probably benefit from a somewhat higher serving temperature. At this ABV I’m left feeling like one might as well go to Imperials - get more flavor with your buzz.

On tap at Tapwerks. Pours black with a dark brown that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has notes of dry roasted malt with dark grains and a hint of bitter coffee. Flavor has a strong roasted malt note, almost with a bit of smoke, and a dry dark finish.
