Golden naked oats mashed with dark crystal and robust roasted malts create a luscious black brew with a satin smooth finish. Layering UK Target hops in the boil adds a pleasant, earthy complexity while higher fermentation temperatures enhance the overall flavor with fruity esters. An old-world style, done the Green Flash way. Big, bold, flavorful and complex – Double Stout.

Bottled poured into a snifter. Pours black with a tan head that dissolved quickly. A complex aroma with hints of coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, oak barrels, and malted milk balls. Initially big and roasty with some hints of dried dates and prunes. A very small alcohol kick to the aftertaste with lots of coffee ground bitterness that lasts. Great body and carbonation that is just lively enough. Wow! I took a flyer on this one in a mix-and-match sixer and was rewarded with a great beer. Be ready for a bold and bitter (in a good way) beer.

Rating #1559 -20.03.2015 - Birthday Brew Tour Stop #3 - On tap at Green Flash. Beautiful dark brown pour with a fairly foamy tan head with mild lacing. Aroma is earth, molasses, soft fruits. Taste is bubbly mouth feel, bold earth and coffee layered with hints of vanilla and chocolate, plum, raisin, currant. Very Belgian-esque, but pleasant.

Nice malty aroma with chocolate. Good dark color with a bold head. Full body from the oats. Flavors were hoppy chocolate and some roasted coffee but not too much. Malty Flavors came out at the end. Hops level was above average.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2016 12oz bottle, poured into a snifter. The aroma is that of sweet chocolate syrup with a faint cola and coffee backing note, by the end of the drink, a shortbread cookie character shows up. The hue is a deep, rich molasses brown topped by a brown sudsy head with a mild, dense fuzz that has very good retention, and a dense, messy, abundant web lace. The taste is highly sweet with a medium bitter compliment. The texture is thick with a creamy foam carbonation and a full body. The flavor profile is sweet chocolate and caramel with dark, sugary fruits (dates?) and a finish that?s syrupy smooth by a crisp crescendo of clean, fresh pine, caramel, and cola. The aftertaste is mildly smokey with bitter coffee grounds and a light, bittersweet cocoa powder that turns bread crust and coffee and has a mild astringent, mellow lingering.
