COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Golden naked oats mashed with dark crystal and robust roasted malts create a luscious black brew with a satin smooth finish. Layering UK Target hops in the boil adds a pleasant, earthy complexity while higher fermentation temperatures enhance the overall flavor with fruity esters. An old-world style, done the Green Flash way. Big, bold, flavorful and complex – Double Stout.

12oz bottle from Pinnochio’s. Pours a jet black color with a big tan head and some lacing. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, roasted malt. Medium on the palate with soft carbonation. Flavor is sweet, roasty, coffee, with a nice, smooth, bitter-coffee finish. Very tasty.

Pours black, no light is getting through this beer. Large foamy brown head appears after pouring that takes a few minutes to disappear. Smells sweet, think milk chocolate and coffee, can smell some oats too. I can understand the Old Rasputin comparison. This beer is a lot heavier on the hops, something I expected from Green flash. Beer has notes of dark chocolate and dark coffee, maybe a little oats in their as well. The malt is heavy but it is completely overshadowed by the hops (not immense, but way more than I’m used to in a stout. Finishes dry and bitter with a little malt left on the palate. Not as tasty as some creative stouts I have but very solid and great for a beer drinker who would rather have beer without too many flavors. Complexity is somewhat hidden by hops. Can’t even taste the alcohol content. Worth trying.

12oz bottle. Very dark pour, as black as it gets, coffee color head. Aromas are bold and potent, cocoa and coffee, more like a black coffee. Palate follows very well, its so smooth hiding the abv very well. Coffee dominates the finish, it’s quite the great stout for being so accessable. Very well done!

pours with a huge dark tan head if you do it right/wrong. aroma is stouty, not too overwhelming but there. flavor is dark chocolate, very roasty, coffee notes, sweetish on the tongue with a dry lingering finish. very very balanced, very well done to style. works like an imperial stout should, very reminiscent of old rasputin, i’d like to A/B these two. This is rated very highly, and while this might not be super overwhelming or huge it is extremely well done and is an excellent example of an impy stout. in that regard, this deserves its 99% style rating. also, its available at my local fresh and easy market for 8.99 a 4 pack. great value!

Pours black with a dense 1/4" head. Aroma of malt, coffee, chocolate and a little anise. Full bodied with a delicious stout taste, that is big, but I think balances everything nicely.

Cold 22oz bottle: Pours an opaque, dark brown color with a small, persistent tan head that leaves some lacing behind. Aroma is of roasted malts with some cherries and grass. Taste is of roasted malts blended with chocolate and grassy hops. Full bodied and smooth, with good carbonation. Ending is of bitter coffee with some caramel and alcohol notes.

Bottle pours pitch black with foamy tan head. Extremely creamy, smooth, thick body. Aromas of roast, chocolate, earth. Moderate bitterness is offset by sweetness. Like drinking a milk-shake. Very nice.

Pitch black with a thin tan head that leaves a nice cap with good lacing. Aroma of roasty earthy chocolate, a touch of molasses, and grainy roasted black malt. Nice full flavor with a great linger, not astringent, leaves pleasant off-dry texture that makes you want more. Roasty flavor full of dark malts, some bakers chocolate, though not as sweet...a touch of black licorice and a hint of molasses, finishing on grainy dark black malts tone. Has a little too much of that ’black malt’ taste, not enough chocolate tones or sweetness for my liking. That said, this is an incredibly made stout with huge body and great complexity.
