2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
The aroma is rather average for a stout. It has coffee, molasses, earth, and burnt malt. The appearance is dark brown with an average head. The taste is like the aroma with a toasted finish. The palate is smooth. Overall a pretty average stout. It’s just a lot stronger.

Bottle at Dutch RB Meeting. Pitch black pour, thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate, butter, dark fruits, caramel and some spices. Flavor is bitter and quite sweet, with butter, chocolate and red fruits. Slightly alcoholic and with some sharp sherry notes. Creamy texture and average carbonation. Nice brew.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bomber from 16th St. Liquor in West Van. Pours a light repelling black with decent, unrelenting mocha head. My nose must be whacked...aside from the oft described roasted malt, cocoa and coffee aromas I’m getting something like pot roast from this (?). Mouthfeel is thick and slightly carbonated. Taste is roasted caramel, dark chocolate, just a hint of spice, some fruit like brandied cherries and raisins. Sticks to the tongue but the alcohol is well worked and only slightly hot. Finish ends a pleasing mix of tangerine, chocolate and hops. Interesting.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours black with a thin off-white head and pretty decent lacing. The aroma is of sweet roasted barley with hints of oatmeal, toffee, and bitter sweetness. The taste is pretty normal for a stout and is of dry chocolate with a bitter sweet oatmeal finish. Overall its a very good beer and a good example of what an oatmeal styled stout should be, but nothing amazing or new.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled 65cl. No memorable components apparent. Smooth, sweet and with a decent bitterness. Boring. I was expecting more. Still very enjoyable.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thicken this mouth feel up a bit and you have a world class IS. And at over 8% abv this is an IS. Pours a black color with an off-white foam head. Has an aroma of dark fruit, caramel, and chocolate. Sweet start then the carbonation kicks in, turning roasty/malty and then bitter. Sweet velvety chocolate finish. Very good. Wouldn’t expect anything less from the great Green Flash.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, 22oz. It’s a black beer topped by a dense, finger-thick beige to tan head. It’s just beautiful to look at. The aroma has roasted malts and a pleasant chocolate and coffee scent. Not that dark chocolate, milk chocolate is the thing here. The flavor has some sweetness, but meaty chocolate and coffee do most of the job, and there’s also a touch of orange. I would like more hoppy flavors. Full-bodied and warming, quite smooth on the palate. There’s some bitterness in the finish, but also here I would like a little more. A super-drinkable beer with lots of nice flavors. Definitely worth a revisit. 100115

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Appearance - One finger head, mocha brown head, leaves a bit of lacing. The head fades quickly as expected for a beer with such a high ABV. Pitch black with no light coming through the glass.
Aroma - Big roasted malts. I get some oats as well. A hint of sweet chocolate malt and a tad bit of alcohol. As it heats up you get much more alcohol in the aroma. No hops what so ever which is almost shocking for a Green Flash beer.
Taste - For double/imperial stout you get a medium mouth feel, mainly from the oats used. Up front you get rich roasted malt character. At colder temperatures it goes down very smooth and leaves a dry finish. As with most dark beers, as you let it warm up, the true characters of the beer come into play. You still get the rich roastyness on the front of your tongue but as it gets to mid tongue you get slightly sweet coffee notes just before the Target hops balance out the malts before going too sweet light some double/imperial stouts do. It finishes with bitter-sweet roasted notes and the 8.8% ABV makes its presence known. Overall the Double Stout is one smooth drinker.
