3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This is my first ever imperial stout.. after about a year of trying many, many beer styles i think my palate is prepared. Pours blacks and thick with a mocha head and a big espresso noise on it with a slight ash + hop tone. Has a creamy mouth feel and is very sweet in the taste with a hard to detect bitterness although i can really taste the alcohol. Alot of the coffee comes through to the taste also with a slight liquorice? I didnt mind this beer was quite warming and i can see why these are good for winter.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured out black. 40ºSRM.
Nose has dark fruit, liniment, smoke, dark honey.
Mouthfeel is light. Palate has smoke, charcoal, oatmeal, wheat malt, flour,
Finish is carbon like. A little light on on the finish and maybe even a little plastic-like, but this may be a function more of the expiry than the actual beer.
Would love to taste a fresh one, though I can’t be sure it’ll be better.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
(35 cl bottle courtesy of Tsekouratos, cheers! BBD: July 16th 2016) Poured at fridge temperature (meter says 15 degrees at the surface) into a stemmed burgundy glass reveals a pitch black body with two fingers of tan head that subside after about a minute leaving film and some nice lace. Aroma is of course roasted malt but it does have something a bit unorthodox to it, which might well be earthy notes from the Target hops and fruity esters mentioned in the description. In the mouth the beer strikes you as having an oily texture with a medium body, a soft carbonation and a protracted bitter, roasted finish. As regards the flavour sweetness is not pronounced and seem to be playing a balancing second fiddle to the roastedness and hoppiness of the beer, which are themselves moderated. Alcohol is quite upfront. Decent and drinkable.
