3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
From a bottle, huge brown head that lasts, black body. Chocolate on the nose, roasted barley, something else I canít nail down. Full body, some initial toffee, bitter from start to end, lingers for a very long time. Slightly astringent, sweetness is mostly at the beginning with toffee, molasses, and chocolate. Great bodied dry Stout.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Best-by 8/30/14. $2.99 single snagged up at Fairway Sav-Mor in Eastpointe, Michigan. Poured into a standard shaker pint glass.
Appearance: Definition of black. Two fingers of a pretty dark tan head. A picture perfect beer after the pour... truly gorgeous. Seems to be a beer filled with floaters, as I can see a lot near the glass. My only knock on this is the lacing. Itís pretty good, but not great. Minor complaint.
Smell: A pretty mild coffee and chocolate aroma at first, but as it warms, licorice comes out quite a bit. It smells sweeter as well. Roasted malts and coffee. I definitely feel like thereís more coffee in the smell than chocolate... but itís sort of like a mocha. I also trace alcohol, but itís VERY well hidden.
Taste/feel: First thing I notice is a super rich mouthfeel thatís actually so thick, Iím not sure if I love it. Itís as if the thickness of the beer blocks out a bit of the flavor of the beer... but since I adore a thick mouthfeel on my stouts (who doesnít?), I donít mind that much at all, hence the score. It just feels like I want to drink more because of the thick feel, strangely enough. I keep wanting more flavor! Itís hard to pace myself. Anyway, this is a tasty beer. Semi-sweet chocolate, coffee, the roasted malts... really not picking up any of the dark fruits that I tend to get in a double stout, and thatís fine with me. 8.8% makes this a bit of a dangerous beer, as I truthfully get virtually no signs of alcohol. Thereís maybe an essence of it in the aroma, and thereís a very slight throat warming, but itís minuscule.
Overall, I think this is a great beer. I believe this could be a better beer if the mouthfeel were actually a touch thinner so I could get more flavor out of the beer, but itís pretty incredible as it is. Iíd definitely buy it again.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a deep black with a tannish brown head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. Smell is slightly on the sweeter side for an imperial stout. Chocolate covered raspberries, dark coffee, vanilla, and some earthy notes. Taste is very similar to the nose. Coffee, dark fruits and bitter chocolate. Finish is a little too bitter which is the only downfall on the taste side of things. Mouthfeel is a little on the thin side for an imperial stout. Overall, very enjoyable, Iíd put it in my top 20 stouts.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black with three fingers of mocha foam that dies down in a few minutes leaving a quilt of the same. Crazy lace. Smells of hops (pine, weed) then a huge malt presence. Molasses, cocoa, licorice, coffee and a bit of milk chocolate are all very strong. Flavor is sweet, coffee grounds and bitter all at once; not sure I like the juxtaposition versus a well integrated profile. Some molasses, dark figs and a little hershey syrup in there. When this beer first entered my lips, I noticed the body - it seemed thin and flat, then I gave it a light swish and some carb came out. Overall the body was poorly constructed with a lower than anticipated (even for a stout) and no body to back it up with a dry finish. Meh, has stuff going for it, but not that all impressed.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz Bottle: Nice roasted toasted malt aroma, chocolate, and some caramel notes throughout. Appearance is a deep dark black with a thick tan head that sticks around for a while. Taste is really good nice malt front with chocolate notes then toasted nuts, and you can tell that hops are in there too. Palate is medium to high carbonation nice lively mouthfeel, and an aftertaste of roasted malts with a light tinge of hop bitterness. Overall, Really nice stuff. Very well balanced and just plain good. Cheers!

12 oz bottle served in a snifter.
As one might expect from Green Flash or from a beer called "Double Stout", this is a bold, flavorful and complex ale. While the brewer may be best known for hoppy beers, the hop level here is about perfect, leaving this with some added complexity and great bitter/sweet balance, but otherwise no obvious hoppiness. Massive dark roasted grain taste yet no burnt or other off-flavors.
Great smooth feel from the very full body; near perfect carbonation.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Complex, deep aroma with notes of roast, chocolate, licorice and leather. The taste surpasses even that. Thick, chewy body, a velvety mouthfeel (the oats really work in this one), light sweet and light bitter. Roasted grain, coffee and licorice in the finish. Itís deep yet not too heavy and stays remarkably easy to drink with such a serious flavour. Awesome!

22Oz bottle pours a jet black with a small but lasting tan head. Big sweet roasty aroma. Carmelized sugars, earthy and dark pitted fruit. Flavor is sweet and soft licorice and prunes. Some dark bitter roast at the end. Very nice
