3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours black with a big, bulging, brown head that dissipates to nothing. Smells like a chocolate milk shake, maybe a bit of coffee. Very bittersweet on the tongue, and left behind a roasted coffee aftertaste. This was a decent, medium bodied beer.

Very smooth, malty, not "charred" or bitter. Chocolate, caramel goodness. Definitely will buy again.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
From an older bottle, still with the old label. Lightly lacing, yellowish beige, surprisingly stable, moussy head, colour a hazy, very dark burgundy with a black ’soul’. Wonderful, lush American stout aroma of chocolate mousse, marzipan, coffee liqueur, dried banana, mocha ice cream, sweet candied cherry, whisky, hazelnut oil, kahlua, pepper. Strong, refined candied sweetness in the mouth, Belgian chocolate-like, touch of ’natural’ and undisturbing iron as in many a good stout, soft carbo, candied dates and pear brandy hints, thick layer of caramelly and chocolatey, smooth, oily, fatty maltiness, nicely balanced, refined roasted coffee bitterness in the end with spicy hops and a glow of warming, liqueurish and brandyish alcohol to finish it off. A must try if you are a stout afficionado like me.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A lighter weight stout, sweet in the middle but with a healthy dose of hops to even out the typical roasted heaviness . Different and very good. Poured from a bottle.

Bottle. Rich roasted malt aroma with chocolate and coffee notes. Pours inky black with a decent mocha brown head with excellent retention and lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt flavors with the rolled oats providing a silky smooth mouthfeel and rich body. Finishes smooth with nice chocolaty flavors with just a hint of roast coffee. Nice stout.

Obfita, kawowa, drobna piana. Bardzo trwała, ładnie koronkuje.
Aromat kawowy, lekko palony. Nuty słodkie i lekki kwaskowe. Po ogrzaniu nuta alkoholowa.
W smaku spora goryczka. Krótka ale mocna.
Trochę alkoholowe, grzeje.
W smaku wytrawne, pozostawia gorzkawy posmak.Wytrawny i lekko palony.
Ani aromat ani smak nie są specjalnie złożone.

living in new york city, one thinks of green flash purely as a brewer of IPAs. then along comes this stout and...it’s fantastic. shows what great brewmasters these guys. they’re not confined to hops, and, judging from the videos on their website, they’re not confined to anything. this is one hell of a stout. i can’t describe it the way most of the people on this site can, but i know a great stout when i taste it. cheers, green flash!

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Pours black, like old motor oil, with a brown head. Aromas of dark chocolate cake and licorice. Flavors are dark chocolate, licorice, vanilla, slightly fruity raisin-like tones and roasty-toasty flavors. Silky smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Noticeable alcohol warmth. Huge, bold beer. Rich and decadent. Beautiful!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle This was the best stout of the summer. The stout poured a pitch black with frothy thick tan head and lacing. The aroma of coffee and chocolate meet your nose. There is a coffee flavor that resides in the upper mouth. The stout has a medium body with average carbonation.. The stout has a dry clean finish with chocolate closing out each swallow to the end.

After a disappointing experience with the Cellar 3 batch of Silva Stout, I was needing some good Green Flash to lift my spirits. Double Stout was just what I needed. As big as its name implies, Double Stout pours black, viscous, heavy - not much head to speak of, here. Aroma is robust, roasted, and boozy. Flavor is a complex treat. Weirdly enough, Double Stout reminded of various Stout subcategories while I drank it. The toasted barley flavors and subtle creaminess reminded me of an Irish style Dry Stout. The coffee and chocolate tastes were like a plain ol’ (Imperial) Stout. At the last, Double Stout revealed some dark fruit tones which made me think of the Foreign Stout style. This beer’s greatest strength is that it gives your palate a lot to keep it busy. Double Stout is proof the San Diego brewery can make quality ales outside of their hop-focused discipline.
