scraff (1662), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Apr 14, 2008 22 oz - Dense black, thick creamy golden tan head with perfect retention. Rich mocchachino and ashy chocolate aromas layer on dark currant and black licorice notes. Slight hints of vanilla emerge at room temp. Deep roasted espresso cream and black chocolate flavors are well balanced on soft vinous tones. ABV is well hidden. Rounds out well with just a touch of ending bitterness. Full bodied and a touch oily, pillow soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Another great effort from one of my favorites on the West coast…
Eyedrinkale (3106), Beer Town, New York, USA Sep 5, 2008 On tap at the almost famous Blind Tiger. Not mch of a head atop of the standard black, oily body. Aroma is plenty hoppy with lots of tasty coffee. Flavor has a nice burnt espresso thing along with a slight amount of lactic acid. Nice and bitter with a long finish. Easy drinking and just a bit on the sweet side. drewbeerme (1793), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 3, 2008 22oz bottle. i actually enjoyed this more than i thought i would, big roasty and chocolately aroma with bold, chocolate flavors with roasty finish. med body. rather easy drinking for the style. i wouldnt mind a few pints of this on a chilly evening. not mind blowing just good! malrubius (425), USA Sep 1, 2008 22 ounce bottle split in pint glass. Black with dense brown puffy head and lace. Chocolate fig and ground coffee beans aroma. Chocolate, dark fruit roasted coffee mild oat tang and assertive medium bitter finish. Full body medium-low carbonation, great thick soft mouthfeel. Complex and delicious. Excellent and very satisfying. Pairing with Trader Joe’s dark chocolate as a complete desert. Like, totally awesome.
Oh, by the way, rating #420. darn1207 (258), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 1, 2008 bomber. deep black/brown color with a large pillowy tan head. aroma is chocolate, coffee, smoke - and an acidic element to it. taste is chocolate, caramel, nuts, lightly roasted malts and light hops. the finish is slightly bitter with the aforementioned acidic quality. medium texture. Aubrey (2592), Denver, Colorado, USA Aug 29, 2008 Inky black with a sticky tan head that lasts. Texture was full and creamy with a velvety softness. Bold and rich flavors from start to finish (which lingered well into the aftertaste): toffee, sugared espresso, sweet milk, dark chocolate, fresh-roasted coffee beans, and caramel syrup. Grassy hop presence had a bold bitterness to balance things out. Some burntness and robust roastiness added depth. Very tasty ... I loved this stuff.
