Immy (1472), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Jul 3, 2008 Bomber. Black with a thick tan head that lasted to the bottom of the glass. Lots of sweet chocolate in the nose, dark caramel, a touch of undetermined fruit. Flavor is chocolaty and caramely, some plummy notes. Creamy body. Good stuff. grant (737), Martinez, California, USA Jul 3, 2008 Sludgy dark brown. Aroma is very chocolatey, somewhat acidic with some prominent ethanol, lightly smoky. Flavor is sweet and full with tons of roastines backe up by more wispy smokiness. Lightly fruity, but not as much as expected from description. Very meaty body. Relatively lightly bitter finish. Very roasty but avoids the overly smoky trap. MaltOMeal (221), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Jul 1, 2008 bomber courtesy of doubleo. I had been wanting to try this and was grateful for this gift. This pours black with a beautiful brown head. Very appealing appearance. The nose is of roasty malt with some ash to it. Taste is of chocolate and although not very complex is still quite tasty. Mouthfeel is medium to thick and a bit of bitterness and sweetness that offset each other well. Ernest (4173), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jun 30, 2008 Bottle.
Head is initially small, frothy, brown, mostly lasting.
Body is opaque black (flashlight tested).
Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, coffee, dark chocolate), lightly hoppy (herbs, resin), with light notes of alcohol and medicine, hints of cinnamon and chalk.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic.
Mr. Silva has a winner here for sure...kudos! I expected a very American/west coast-slanted rendition (overly hoppy in the nose and abrasive in the mouth), but this is quite elegant and rich. Excellent appearance (lasting head and pretty much 100% opacity) and mouthfeel (very luscious and smooth), and a great sweet/bitter balance too. The alcohol presence is just where it should be. The aroma is just a bit too straightforward to get a raving score (with perhaps a slight bit of unwanted phenol action), but it’s definitely pleasant. Easily the best Green Flash offering I’ve tried so far. BeerVirgin72 (553), C-Bus, Ohio, USA Jun 30, 2008 Bottle shared at Cbus tasting 11. Pour was thick and black. Aroma was roasted coffee. Taste was thick black roasted nuts, coffee, and chocolate. This was a really good stout!
