3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Not too bad. I’m not exactly sure what a double stout is. Smooth, dark, chocolate, not too roasted. Higher alcohol was covered. Sweet. Medium-heavy body. Light on the carbonation.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured into snifter a black with coffee colored head. Limited CO2 and laceing. The head did not last as long as others here in fact it was quick to fade to the sides of the glass. Aroma was of dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate and a slight note of alcohol detected. The taste started on the dark chocolate and coffee side with a sweetness to a dark fruit earthy slightly bitter note. I love stouts and this was no exception. Heavy bodied and like a light oil.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Menacing black body, deep tan head; thick, chunky, & slow to recede, leaving lots of fat lacing behind. Soft, pleasing aroma of roasted malt, light cocoa, creamy sweet java, & a slight hint of milkiness. Same, dense flavor of chocolate, semisweet with a mixture of sweet cream & bitter roast balancing each other perfectly. Bordering on a sweet stout, but stopping just shy. Bittersweet mocha, java, coffee bean, & roasted malt finish. No sign of the 8.8% ABV, either. Silky, creamy body with good carbonation. Really enjoyed this one.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma: 8/10. Very, very bready, in a good way. Definite nose of alcohol and a bit of the hops.
Appearance: 5/5. Pours a nice black with a thick tan-brown head that lingers and laces nicely.
Taste: 3/10. ... ugh. Wow. What happened here. Sour and cocoa-driven, but in all the wrong ways. No harmony at all in this beer. The cocoa is intense, but the sourness is just all wrong for this beer. Did I get a bad bottle, here? -- (Re-rated a half hour later): 5/10. This beer takes a while to open up! The ugly sourness improves after a while.
Palate: 5/5. Very creamy smooth on the palate with a great mouthfeel and a nice lingering head on it.
Overall: 14/20, but would not buy or drink again. High scores in everything except where it mattered most: How the beer *tastes*. Just a bad harmony, like cheap waxy chocolate meets rancid lemon juice. Highest scoring beer I ever poured out.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thin brown head on dark black pour. Dark chocolate and caramel flavors. Bitter, long finish that balances nicely with the slight burn of alcohol. I would love to try this after spending some time in rum or bourbon barrels.

Notes of wine, chocolate and coffee. A very unique beer. Good though for one or two.. not liters.
