East Village Pilsner -
What Fizzy Yellow Beer should be!

I believe that "Fizzy Yellow Beer" can and should be full of life and flavor unlike domestic mass produced, mundane, lifeless, boring, bland, fizzy yellow, insipid swill that takes up cooler space and tap handles at our local markets, pubs and restaurants. San Diego’s East Village is full of life and Green Flash is adding flavor to this burgeoning neighborhood with "East Village Pilsner". It’s made from premium European Pilsner Malt and Noble Hops. Traditional Pilsner lager yeast ferments the beer and imparts a clean flavor, yet unique character during the one-month lagering period. Of course our East Village Pilsner has a bit more hop than even the best European examples, which makes it truly a Green Flash Original. 5.3% ABV – 35 IBUs.

On tap at Green Flash. Great appearance, fizzy and yellow, as the name would suggest, with some head retention. Nice grassy and floral hop aroma with some sweet malt notes. Nice pilsner flavor with pale malt and a good grassy, grainy, floral hop kick. Medium-light body with good crispness. Really solid for the style, or for a fizzy yellow beer.

A: The pour is a lightly hazed golden color with a big white head. S: Like many good lagers, this one starts off with a sweet bread note and a touch of hops. The hops are floral and earthy with just a mild grass note. A bit of lager yeast and biscuit malts, perhaps a light adjunct note. T: Unfortunately, not quite as good of a flavor. It features a mild bitterness as well as some straw and grass. There is a light fruitiness of esters as well as some actual yeast. The base is sweet bread, but it lacks the biscuit quality of the nose. M: Light in body with a medium level of carbonation. O: It’s too bad this didn’t taste quite as good as it smelled. Overall, though, a pretty decent beer.

This has a light sweet flavor, yet looks almost flat. Light toasty with hops. Not bad for a light beer. increases in hops flavor as you drink

Yellow pour. Typical hops and light caramel aroma with pretty much the same notes in the flavor. Hops are more noticeable in the flavor. Crisp and refreshing.

see through yellow color. Smooth and easy to drink. Slight pilsner like body, easy to drink but not a lot going on.

Draft. Slightly hazy but bright yellow with lively carbonation. Aroma is mildly hoppy with some bready notes. Flavor is quite complex for a pilsener: crisp hopping with some spicy and floral notes, malty and round with some earthy elements. Tasty pilsener.

More gold than yellow, nice ring of foam. Smell like corn, some grass. Taste is crisp and fizzy. Grassy hops, dry woody finish.
