East Village Pilsner -
What Fizzy Yellow Beer should be!

I believe that "Fizzy Yellow Beer" can and should be full of life and flavor unlike domestic mass produced, mundane, lifeless, boring, bland, fizzy yellow, insipid swill that takes up cooler space and tap handles at our local markets, pubs and restaurants. San Diego’s East Village is full of life and Green Flash is adding flavor to this burgeoning neighborhood with "East Village Pilsner". It’s made from premium European Pilsner Malt and Noble Hops. Traditional Pilsner lager yeast ferments the beer and imparts a clean flavor, yet unique character during the one-month lagering period. Of course our East Village Pilsner has a bit more hop than even the best European examples, which makes it truly a Green Flash Original. 5.3% ABV – 35 IBUs.

one of the best American pilsners I’ve had. Haven’t checked to see if my rating reflects it, but this one is pretty nice. Not overly hoppy. It pours very pale with a thin head- so much so that it could be mistaken for a Budweiser at first glance. Fortunately the comparison stops there. Not too far from a true pilsner.

Growler from Whole Foods. Pours a light gold, nice head, very slight head. Aroma is hoppy and grassy, with a bit of grain. Flavor is a match. Sort of a German style pils in the hopping, but has just a bit of lingering sweetness on the finish that is more Czech in nature. Thoroughly enjoyable, love a good pils.

Tap. Nice and mild. Pretty decent. Not my favorite style, but smooth. San Diego super chargers.

Tap. Clear yellow pour with a white froth of foam. Toasted malt and light bitterness in the aroma. Taste is clean, dry malt with grain and moderate bitterness. Clean mouthfeel. Okay for the style.

Pale see-through yellow. Abundant carbonation holds a full white head on this pilsner. It smells like nutty and minerally oil. It has a harsh bite and tastes like a nice hotel lobby smells. INW, clean, but chemmy.

Draft at brewery. Pours golden with a thin white head. A little grainy on the nose. There’s a slight hop note of citrus but its faint. Finishes clean. Eh!

Pour on tap at GABF, clear yellow golden pour with white head, aroma brought notes of biscuit, cracker and grass notes, slight honey, hints of pepper, spice, and yeast in there as well. Taste is a mix of biscuit, bread, pepper and yeast, slight honey and cracker sweetness, yeasty and doughy notes, finishing clean, dry.
