East Village Pilsner -
What Fizzy Yellow Beer should be!

I believe that "Fizzy Yellow Beer" can and should be full of life and flavor unlike domestic mass produced, mundane, lifeless, boring, bland, fizzy yellow, insipid swill that takes up cooler space and tap handles at our local markets, pubs and restaurants. San Diego’s East Village is full of life and Green Flash is adding flavor to this burgeoning neighborhood with "East Village Pilsner". It’s made from premium European Pilsner Malt and Noble Hops. Traditional Pilsner lager yeast ferments the beer and imparts a clean flavor, yet unique character during the one-month lagering period. Of course our East Village Pilsner has a bit more hop than even the best European examples, which makes it truly a Green Flash Original. 5.3% ABV – 35 IBUs.

Enjoyed a pint of this beer on tap in San Diego. The beer had a clear solid gold color with a good-sized foamy white head with good retention, lacing, and cling. Its aroma was a light mix of sour grainy and earthy notes with subtle bits of yeast, floral, and straw components. The taste was crisp and had a lightly sweet fruit effect with a touch of lemon and a very light grainy bitterness. The body of the beer was light and zesty on the palate with low carbonation, and was a touch watery with a thin and light mouthfeel.

[2/19/15] Draught at Green Flash in San Diego. Clear pale golden. Grainy aroma with some diacetyl. Sweetish flavor with graininess, a bit of bread and mild grassy hops bitterness. Quite light-bodied.

On tap at BGH. Nice fresh mix of hops and grass on the nose. Sharp flavor that doesn't balance well. Not so good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Baileys - Pours clear yellow with a white head. The aroma has clean pils malt, breadiness and grass. It has a medium body and mild semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with dry malt, bready pils, sulfur, grass, herbs and some spice. The finish has crackers, light fruit, grass and leaves. Great pils.

De la paille et de la citronnelle roulés dans des malts miellés collants. La finale herbacée est bien déposé et l’amertume en harmonie avec la sécheresse.

From notes. Tasted on 5/17/13 on draft at Three Crow. Pours clear light yellow with an average white head that slowly recedes to a thin collar of lace. The nose is light bread malt with tons of spicy, peppery hops, very clean and fresh. The flavor is fairly aggressively hopped for a pilsener, very fresh, crisp, and plenty of spicy bitter hops. The body is light with fizzy carbonation and a long spicy, bitter hops finish.

>> Clear straw pour, good white foam, weak retention. Nose is lemon and sugar, green apple/acetaldehyde. Taste is sugary, lemon, thicker white biscuit, honey roll, bitter honeydew rind. Grassy hoppy finish. Huh, feels papery. Doesn’t come together super well. Good, but aroma is the low point.

Tap at Buster’s on 28th. Very slightly hazy yellow pour with a white head. Really nice pils - bready with good sharp grassy hops. Lively and dry on the tongue. Good stuff.

Aliased as East Village Pilsner in their local series. Kinda boring in context of their pretty awesome line-up, but not bad. Crisp and light...I was hoping for a little livlier hop note, but the malt kinda carries this one. Just ok."
