3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. 2/15/13. Pours very dark, slightly clear dark brown with a fluffy, beige head, a finger and a half worth. Aroma is spicy, Belgian yeast, fruit, caramel, banana. Taste is pretty great; spicy, bitter, sweet, fruity, grass, some Belgian yeast (not overpowering), bitter dark chocolate finish. Chewy mouth feel; excellent. Nice lacing. Medium carbonation is nice. There is a lot of fruitiness here, in the nose and the taste. Dark fruits and berries, and while sweet, it still maintains a nice dryness.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Poured from a growler picked up at the tasting room. Clean aroma with almost a rose petal accent. Raisin and toffee notes follow. Pours Amber with a cream coloured foam that persists. Lacing lingers as you would expect. Clean malt taste with effervescent carbonic bitterness. Aftertaste lingers with a clean bite. For a 9.1 ABV ale, very refreshing

It definitely is a dark ale not sure if I like them yet. I wouldn't go out of my way to get this one again.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz., 2013 bottling. Sweet, darkly fruity aroma, notes of brown sugar and raisin, along with faint dark bread and medicinal alcohol. Rusty red-brown in color with a very fine, fading head and sparse lacing. Flavor profile is gently sweet, fruity and with just a hint of tartness, some black cherry and red grape appearing here, finishing with a light hop note, toffee and peppery alcohol. Warming and finely effervescent on the palate, thin and lightly sticky with a full body. Perhaps not the most refined example of the style, but tasty and full of flavor.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours an unclear brown beer with a beautiful off white head on top that lasts during the entire drinking experience. Aroma of apples, Belgian yeast, dark fruits, kandi sugar. Flavor is nice and sweet, fruity and has some age in there. Might even have some oaky notes in there as well. Great balance, great drinkability. Smooth sweet finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Good stuff.

[ Keg ][ 4oz ][ Green Flash ][ $1 ][ Taster ][ 11.22.14 ]
>> Murky maroon pour with 360 yellow lacing. Nose is soy, dates, esters, old fruit, extreme esters verging on rotting fruit. Taste is spiced Abbey Dubbel, cinnamon, some butyric harshness, cinnamon bread. Creamy mouthfeel, full bodied. Not bad though. Improves as it warms. Why this is marketed as "Dark Ale" is beyond as that could be anything, and given Green Flash’s portfolio the last thing I would think would be a Dubbel or Quad. So there you go, Green Flash’s Grand Cru is a dark Belgian ale.
