Bottle at sampling session. From notes (Oct. 8, 2011). Bready, caramel, smokey nose. Lots of smoke in the initial and mid. Some light fruit and coffee. Chocolaty bitter finish. Smoke is the dominant note. Okay.

Pours pretty much black with thick, tall white head. Aroma of yeast, brown sugar, dough, earth, hay, barnyard, spices. Taste is sweet and spicy, with heavy yeast and some sugar. Finish is lingering sweet and boozy with yeast still present. Body is light to medium, somewhat creamy with low carbonation.

Very American, workman like Dark. Fruity, a bit cloy, heavy, but not really bold or complex like the abbeys. Very nice, spicey fruit nose.

Draft at Sybarite Pig. Tulip. Pours dark opaque amber with thick white head. Great lace. Aroma is fairly sweet with fruits and malts. Taste lighter than expected with spices, fruits, heavy malts and light bitter hops. Metallic finish and rather dry.

Bottle a clear red amber beer with huge head and good lacing. Nose is on fruit hops and grass. Aroma is on malt, caramel, bubblegum, yeast, blackcurrant, anise, almond, hazelnut, apricot, quite complex body. Very nice and quite unique, not too sweet !

Bottle@Home. Tangerine and spices aroma. Dark brown, off-white head, good lace. Sweetish, raisin, spices like Indian tea, nice bitterness. Medium body, dry. Almost like a Gruyt beer.

On tap at Flying Saucer. Pours a dark brown color with some reddish tints. The aroma has that sweet malty smell, some dark fruits. Taste is very smooth. It is very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This one poured a murky dark amber color with an off white head. Aroam was of light spices, dark fruits, and belgian yeast. Flavor was similar, a bit overly sweet, but spicey and a bit complex.

Dark, ruddy brown pour with a tall, soapy, creamy tan head that has great retention after kindly retreating to a thick skim and leaves some nice lacing along the way. Aroma starts of with bananas and molasses, but the banana fades shortly after the pour, dark fruit, chocolate, light citrus and herbal hops. Flavor is sweet and malty, some chocolate, dark fruit, molasses, dried orange peel, sweet, fruity floral notes and lots of doughy and spicy yeast to the finish. Heavy body, with a creamy, but syrupy feel, moderate carbonation. Damn tasty overall, definitely hoppier than your average BSA, without overdoing it.

7/IV/13 - 12Fl. Oz. bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ Erwin’s place - bottled: X/30/12 (2013-314)

Clear dark purple beer, irregular off-white head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: chloride, caramel, dried fruits, bit metallic, brown sugar, raisins. MF: ok carbon, medium body. taste: caramel, some citrus, little bitter, spices, sugary, liquorish. Aftertaste: chloride, bitter hops, metallic, dried fruits, cloves, aniseed. I was not exactly impressed by this beer, as happens with a lot of American impressions of a Belgian style beer. Too bad.
