3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hellbilly (3249) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - MAR 3, 2009on tap at papago...
poured a nearly black shade of brown with a soft tan head and moderate drippy lacing. the aroma is quite fruity... raisins, dried stone fruits, loads of smooth malt and a strange smell... or feel rather, of menthol or eucalyptus. it is definitely something which numbs the sinus... odd but not unpleasant. that same character carries over as a profile in the flavor... it burns a bit and cleans off the palate. the flavor is full of malt and molasses but remains not overly sweet (at least for the style)... notes of herbs, flowers, grass and very mild pine on the finish along with some alcohol burn. the body is seemingly light and highly drinkable in quantity with prickly carbonation and mouth feel yet smooth...7/5/7/4/15/3.8

Bottle. Very dark mahogony color with dark ruby tones. Very generous head that stayed awhile. Nice complex aroma of dark fruit, raisin, belgium yeast, slight citrus hop, caramel. Taste is on spicy side with coriander. Creamy texture. Medium bodied. Slight warming alcohol. Hop bitter finish. Great stuff. This brewery is becoming one of my favorites. Nice.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 SHIG (3061) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - MAY 18, 2013
Draft: Poured a dark brown with off white head. Aroma was of hops, fruit, and malts. Taste was strong malts with light hops and an alcohol burn. I could see aging this a little to bring that hotness down a notch.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 fidelis83 (1589) - Clinton, Iowa, USA - APR 21, 2013
Dark, ruddy brown pour with a tall, soapy, creamy tan head that has great retention after kindly retreating to a thick skim and leaves some nice lacing along the way. Aroma starts of with bananas and molasses, but the banana fades shortly after the pour, dark fruit, chocolate, light citrus and herbal hops. Flavor is sweet and malty, some chocolate, dark fruit, molasses, dried orange peel, sweet, fruity floral notes and lots of doughy and spicy yeast to the finish. Heavy body, with a creamy, but syrupy feel, moderate carbonation. Damn tasty overall, definitely hoppier than your average BSA, without overdoing it.
