Our Belgian Style Dark Ale is inspired by traditional Abbey Ales to deliver the richest of malt flavors but with a slightly elevated hopping and increased complexity given from two different yeast strains. This malt laden ale is designed to satiate and keep your taste buds dancing.

22oz Bottle. The pour was a murky dark brown with a purple hue and a small (less than 1 finger) light brown creamy head that reduced down to a large puddle and medium collar with excellent full sheets of layered lacing. The aroma was of a roasted dark bread malt and a sweet doughy Belgian yeast with notes of caramel, cinnamon, coriander and dark fruit (figs, dates, berries and overripe plums). The taste was a bold malty sweet with notes of caramel and dark fruit pretty much throughout, with the finish being a tad yeasty and having a mildly spicy alcohol ending. The flavor lasted and average duration following the swallow with a mild spicy fruity taste left lying on the taste buds along with a slow creeping alcohol warming sensation. Mouthfeel was just a bit under medium in body with a nice smooth creamy texture and a medium carbonation. Overall this was a brew with a nice bold fruitiness which melded nicely with the Belgian yeast and the mild spiciness, allowing for a smooth and easy drinkability that hid the high ABV almost totally, except for a slight warming sensation towards the end...

Bottle. Pours an unclear brown beer with a beautiful off white head on top that lasts during the entire drinking experience. Aroma of apples, Belgian yeast, dark fruits, kandi sugar. Flavor is nice and sweet, fruity and has some age in there. Might even have some oaky notes in there as well. Great balance, great drinkability. Smooth sweet finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Good stuff.

>> Murky maroon pour with 360 yellow lacing. Nose is soy, dates, esters, old fruit, extreme esters verging on rotting fruit. Taste is spiced Abbey Dubbel, cinnamon, some butyric harshness, cinnamon bread. Creamy mouthfeel, full bodied. Not bad though. Improves as it warms. Why this is marketed as "Dark Ale" is beyond as that could be anything, and given Green Flash’s portfolio the last thing I would think would be a Dubbel or Quad. So there you go, Green Flash’s Grand Cru is a dark Belgian ale.

"definitely a lot of ripe dark fruit going on here, as well as the yeasty flavor and nose. i have to say, when you hold it up to light it looks like diarrhea, but tastes much better."

Dark brown with dense tan head. Dark fruit and raisin aroma. Taste is fig, raisin, scotchy malt, chocolate. Not as good as I had been anticipating.

Deep brownish red pour with khaki head a half inch high. Somewhat sour, very malty scent. Spicy red hops, strong florals, and brown sugar. Low carbonation, creamy mouthfeel, dry tingly finish. Malty sweet taste with peaty and roasty/ashiness, stony (if that’s a flavor), carmel, dark fruit, fig perhaps, some melon. Taste like and american strong ale with lots of scottish/scotch influence.

Very rich, malty, dried fruit taste - lots of burnt raisins & cherries bouncing off the tongue. This is a true homage to the Belgium tradition with a beer that excretes rich Belgium Monasteries. Rated by BrewTom

Appeared to work off of the palat recker recipe. Strong hop flavor with caramel malt flavor. To hoppy for a double. Strong ale work.

Bottle at Grand Cru tasting at Beer&Beyond shop. Hazy brown with a nice off-white head. Aroma - phenolic, yeast, dried fruits and hops. Sweet, dark fruits flavors, quite alcoholic, nutty and spicy with moderate hoppy bitterness. Medium-full bodied.
