Editor’s note: If you had the 8.1% abv version marketed since 2014 as a Double Red India Pale Ale, this is the wrong beer page. Please rate under Green Flash Hop Head Red Double IPA (2014 -). Resinous hop characteristics emerge from an enormous hopping with Columbus, Nugget and Amarillo overtaking the rich caramel malt base. To add luscious
hop flavors and enticingly floral hop aromas, we dry-hop the brew with bucket loads of Amarillo hops. Welcome to the world of Red IPA.

Pouring a deep amber with a fluffy off white head, this red IPA shoes citrus notes and an earthy taste. Not a big fan, but I think I killed my taste buds with a trip to the Holgate Brewhouse yesterday.

0.355l bottle. Hazy reddish dark orange body, off-white head. Huge toast and caramel notes in the aroma escorted with roasted malts and citrusy hops. Taste of caramel, citrusy, piny hops and some roastyness. The finish is really bitter. You can’t tell it’s 7% ABV. Very flavorful and easy to drink. Awesome beer.

Bottle at home. The colour is cloudy, deep reddish brown with a medium, creamy, beige head. Aroma of berries, sweet malt, biscuit, dried fruit, harpix, fruity hop cones and some caramel. More grassy hops and harpix in the flavour, and salt licorice, grass, leather, some ammonia and sweet berries in the background. A little dry in the end. Has a slick mouth feel, and a medium to heavy bitterness that lasts. A rich ale, but feels a bit unbalanced with a all the hops.

Marvelous brew. Liked a lot. Pours clear pink wine reddish with a bit beige frothy, thick top. Aroma fruity, citrusy, pine, sourish amber malty and resiny finishing. But not very intense. Flavor - amber malty, caramel and hops gentle but intense kiss. Beautiful. Taste- medium sweet, tiny sour and average bitter. Palate- medium body, soft carbonation, syrupy texture, long sweetish, light bitter finish. Enjoyed a lot.

Appearance: dark golden brown with two finger soapy head. Aroma: light grassy hop. Not a whole lot coming from the nose. Taste: some malt, some bitter with a nice balance but not much that stands out. Mouthfeel: medium bodied with so e spice on the back. Overall: not bad but doesn't stand out above the rest. A nice drink but forgettable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rich red ale with savory, resinous hops and slightly sweet, very light caramel backing. Long finish, dry and balanced.

I like how the page describes this as an amber ale and the bottle as a red IPA. Pours a light brown. Has the malty flavor but a hop bitterness at the end. Easy to drink. Not bad tasting, For the price, better beers out there. This is good out of the bottle or poured in a glass. Glad I tried it, but most likely won’t buy again as I like other cheaper craft beers better.
