COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: If you had the 8.1% abv version marketed since 2014 as a Double Red India Pale Ale, this is the wrong beer page. Please rate under Green Flash Hop Head Red Double IPA (2014 -). Resinous hop characteristics emerge from an enormous hopping with Columbus, Nugget and Amarillo overtaking the rich caramel malt base. To add luscious
hop flavors and enticingly floral hop aromas, we dry-hop the brew with bucket loads of Amarillo hops. Welcome to the world of Red IPA.

On tap at the bocktown. Aroma of pine and spruce, like any good IPA. Not too red in appearance. Brownish yellow. Nice head that fades within a few minutes. As expected, this is big and hoppy. Bitter and strong, probably should be in the IPA category. Over the top hop. Surprisingly good carbonation which makes it drinkable. Certainly hoppy even perhaps IPA level. More personality than this lager lover can handle.

12oz bottle. Poured a brownish orange color. Head was light tan and reduced within a minute of pouring. Only minimal lace was left behind. The aroma was dominated by flowery hops, but there was also some pine and a hint of toffee. I also detected a bit of lime. Light to medium bodied and dry. Mild hop bitterness emerged at the end and lasted into the finish. I tasted black tea, pine resin, toasted bread, and some graham cracker crumbs. Pretty good.

On tap at the Capitol Ale House. Pour is dark red working on brown. Some tan head with lace. Strong aroma of pine and citrus with a strong cara/tofee malty back bone. The malty flavors take charge in the flavor with some pine and good bitterness. Medium/full body with high carbonation. Semi-sweet finish. Not a bad beer, but I don’t know how much I’d want to drink.

Tap at the Diamond: Deep amber/copper pour with a small/dense tan head. Twiggy & earthy hop aroma. Some hemp, leather and lots of twig come through with a very faint caramel hint in the back. Velvetty & creamy body. The flavor is twiggy and piney hops. There’s some balance with a subtle caramel malt back. The hop character is nice and earthy with pine, hemp, leather and a long resiny finish. There’s also some roasted peppermint and subtle anise suggestion. This was some nice stuff.

On Draft @ capones with Mad_indian. Pours clear amber with a good size off-white head. Aroma of Caramel malts, citrus, and piney hops. The flavor is semi sweet caramel upfront, with a nice splash of citrus, and a piney bitter finish. Good amount of hops. Very nice.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear, deep amber-brown color; light-tan head with decent retention and patchy, fine-bubbled lacing. Pleasant, juicy aroma showing orange peel, tea-like malts, and soft breadiness; resiny, mineral and orange hops. Medium mouthfeel: chewy tea, dried red fruits, and resiny orange / mineral bitterness; nicely balanced, caramel maltiness and orangey hops; tasty, very drinkable amber ale. Nice stuff. Medium finish: dry, tea-like malts, breadiness, and lingering mineral bitterness.

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2008 On tap @ Mission Pizza, pours attractive amber with creamy off white head. Nose is sweet maltiness. The flavor is the same. A bit one diminsional, but decent beer.
