COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Resinous hop characteristics emerge from an enormous hopping with Columbus, Nugget and Amarillo overtaking the rich caramel malt base. To add luscious
hop flavors and enticingly floral hop aromas, we dry-hop the brew with bucket loads of Amarillo hops. Welcome to the world of Red IPA.

A solid pour nets me a three-finger thick, amber tinged, full tan colored, sticky hop-laden head in my 25cl tulip. The beer is a brilliantly clear, ruddy, dark red color that shows some bright copper notes when held up to the light. The aroma is quite hoppy with aromas of dank green tea, a light garlic chive note, and a deep, herbal note that can be quite similar to hemp oil. There is also a plethora of citrus hop aromatics, in fact they play just as big a role as the more herbal aromatics; ruby red grapefruit, bergamot and lychee all are found in ample quantities. A touch of caramelized malt aromatics and toasty grain serves to hold up the hop character, barely intruding on its own.

Fairly dry tasting and well carbonated which causes the beer to foam up a bit as it hits my tongue. Bitingly bitter from the get go, though it only get really sharp in the long, lingering finish. Largely herbal with the aforementioned hemp oil notes playing a big role. Slight menthol notes in the finish, along with a green, almost tannic hop notes completely dominate the malt. There is some malt character noticeable more up front; a very slight touch of malt sweetness, some hints of caramel malts, and a dry toasty grain note, none of which keep this beer from being quite thin. This really could use quite a bit more malt body & flavor; in fact increasing these would actual bring out more of the hop character, especially the citrus / fruit hop-derived flavors.

Not a bad beer, it just doesn’t have quite enough malt to stand up to and even support the hop flavors. The aroma is quite nice though and definitely tickles my hop-head funny-bone. Though if you like the sharper, more herbal style of hopped up beer then this one is probably what you want, I like a bit more balancing hop-fruitiness than this beer achieves.

On tap. POured a deeper amber/orange color and a smaller sized off whte head. Lightly hazy. Aromas of floral green hops, citrus, and a little ’soapy’. Tastes of floral hops, citrus, and toasted caramel. Nice bitter to sweet balance in the tastes. Lacing left on the glass.

12oz bottle. Resin citrus fruit and pine aromas. Orange body with off white head. Dry hop citrus grapefruit flavor to start with. Has some caramel malts on the finish that left something other than the citrus vine tree aftertaste. Dry bitterness thught beer. Not an IPA? Bottle says you make the call, I would say IPA because of the dry biterness but what do I know.

On tap at Capones. Pours a translucent ruby amber with golden notes and a medium creamy/bubbly off white head that laced. Aroma of orange..reminded me of Tang, caramel, lightly toasted malt, caramel and tons of fresh hops. Flavor was even more fresh hops, caramel, citrus, pine, orange and some toasted notes. Green Flash does the hoppy beers well!

UPDATED: JUL 10, 2008 From a 12 oz. bottle, the beer pours a dark copper, slightly hazy, with a thick head consisting of lots of tiny bubbles. A beautiful sight to behold! The aroma is unmistakably of dry hopping, as is confirmed by the bottle. It is almost like smelling a hop flower right off the vine! There is a touch of citrus in the aroma as well. The flavor is a rich, big mouthfeel ale with a good amount of hoppiness. The balance seems slightly tipped toward the hoppy side, but for "hop heads" it is a welcome addition. Other notes include pine and citrus.

On draught at Callahan’s in San Diego. This brew pours a luminous amber color with a medium and foamy beige head that lingers for some time. Rings of lace on the glass. Floral hops aroma with touches of sweet fruit. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with flavors of floral hops, grapefruit and malt. The finish is hoppy with a lingering bitterness. Pretty good overall.

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2008 Bottle. Very dark red with unfiltered suspended particles and a dense, medium manilla head. Toasty, piney hop aroma of medium strength with a tinge of tropical fruits. Flavor is very piney and caramel-like with plenty of grapefruit, wood, tea and resinous hop bitterness. Pleasant lingering bitter finish (tastes a little more bitter than 45 IBUs). Very full, round and chewy with moderate cabonation. Tasty, very nice beer.

Sampled from bottle at Pints for Pets. Great hoppy aroma with grapefruit, resin, apricot. Light caramel, very aromatic. Dark copper amber clear with thin off-white lacing head. Medium watery body with medium carbonation - very drinkable. Starts with brown sugar, biscuit, and light caramel. Ozone, acidic and mild spicy notes. Huge bitter finish with resin and floral notes. Bitter after that sticks to the tongue. Another Green Flash overindulgence in hops.

Pours a dirty reddish brown with a small tan head. Aroma of hops, malt and pine. Taste of hops, dirty pine with a slightly oily mouthfeel. Interesing beer, but the style was a bit off for me.

An over-hopped IPA with a dash of red food coloring. Is it the color or flavor that makes a beer an amber??? When I buy an amber, I expect a solid malt backbone. I expect balance...and believe me I didn’t get it in this one. Lagunitas Lucky #13 pushed the envelope, this one blew it up. Bitter beyond belief...not impressed.
