COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editorís note: If you had the 8.1% abv version marketed since 2014 as a Double Red India Pale Ale, this is the wrong beer page. Please rate under Green Flash Hop Head Red Double IPA (2014 -). Resinous hop characteristics emerge from an enormous hopping with Columbus, Nugget and Amarillo overtaking the rich caramel malt base. To add luscious
hop flavors and enticingly floral hop aromas, we dry-hop the brew with bucket loads of Amarillo hops. Welcome to the world of Red IPA.

Pretty coppery red color beneath a light tan head. Toasty cereal aroma with plenty of resinous hops accompanied by hints of apricot. Grassy hop bitterness accompanied by light cereal malts. Lingering hops, but there is drinkability here and it never seems bracing.

draft at coles- really enjoyable brew. Resinous pot like hop aroma and flavor. Nicely balanced with the malt. Some would say this one is a bit bracing, but not me. I liked it a lot, and immediately bought a six pack for home consumption.

Wow what a great amber. If I was rating this to style it would be a 5. Best amber Iíve had. Aroma was good. Strong grassy hops and earth. Pour was a perfect deep dark amber with a 2 finger off white head. The color this thing had was amazing. The taste was very strong and bitter. Grassy and earthy hops with a cola aftertaste. Decent carbonation rounds it out but the full on hop assault in this beer is the center of attention. More hoppy than most IPAs and even some IIPAs. Great.

Bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville. Red pour, similar to cranberry juice. Sweet citrus hop aroma. Hoppy citrus taste with a touch of malt.

12 oz bottle. Lightly hazy amber in color. Aroma- citrus and floral hops, with some molasses and toasted malt in the back. Taste is moderately hoppy with citrus, mainly grapefruit, some orange, and some floral hop character. Nicely balanced with a molasses/caramel sweetness with a moderate amount of toasted malt character. Finishes light to moderately bitter. Pretty nice, and sessionable.

Nice heavy hop aroma. Poured a dark reddish-amber, with a thin cap of tan head, and visible sediment in the glass. Bitter taste, very bitter. Touch of caramel malts, and just bitter. The bitterness seems a bit over the top for the style, but Iím a hop head, and I donít think any but tha hop heads will pick this beer up.

Well, this certainly is a hop head beer- very fresh resinous hop aroma, covers up most of the sweet malt. First sip is an onslaught of resiny bitterness, tastes like chewing on a fresh hop cone. I would rate this higher if I could taste anything else, but I am not someone who likes to be bludgeoned by hops- I seek a bit more subtlety and balance- That being said, it isnít exactly offensive- brewed very well, just make sure it is your thing.

Bottle pours a dark red color with a lot of floating particles in the glass. Head is tan to off white color. Has nice smells that remind me of hop fields. Taste is a nice blend of malts and hops. Most red ales are more malty. Its refreshing in the summer to have one that is hoppy, too. Nice brew.

Bottle At The Comet. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average fizzy white head that was mostly lasting and had good lacing. Good citrus hoppy & malty aroma. Medium body with slick texture. Heavy bittersweet smooth flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good brew.

Bottle. Pour is a lovely red color (one of the most red colors Iíve seen in a "red ale") and supports a dense and large beige head. Absolutely beautiful... Aromas are thick with lemon peel and pine. Flavor is nicely supported by pine/resin hops and enough malt so that it doesnít come off as watery. I donít know if I would classify this as an "amber" or just a red colored IPA given the hops presence. Wonderfully done.
