LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA Mar 26, 2009 Yum. My favorite (but expensive) red ale. I love the carmel, the bitterness of the hops, the carmel and toasted nutty flavor. Yum. beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Mar 24, 2009 The pour reveals a clear amber color with a medium tan head. Very good aroma of piney, citrusy and resinous hops. Solid flavor of piney, citrusy and resinous hops with some malt and a bitter finish. The body is light with a creamy texture and soft to medium carbonation. Very nice, one of the best amber ales I’ve had so far. Brewbie (217), New York, USA Mar 23, 2009 12oz bottle. dark cloudy amber, thin lasting head. lots of floaties suspended. nice pine hop aroma. taste is heavy piney hops with a nice little malt background. nice. RedXIII (127), Powell, Ohio, USA Mar 23, 2009 Excellent red. Appearance is perfect for the style - deep, cloudy amber with solid head and lacing. Aroma is strong, but mostly malt and caramel. Flavor is awesome. It’s hoppy, malty, sweet caramel to start and a bitter hop finish. Good stuff. mspindler (301), Alta Loma, California, USA Mar 22, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown With a large white head and some floaties. Aroma is fresh citrusy hops and a little sweet. Flavor is the same with a mellow bitterness and a load of caramel. Medium bodied with lots of carbonation. Not very complex, but very tasty. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Mar 21, 2009 (Bottle) Purchased at Spinnakers Spirit Merchant in James Bay, Victoria, BC. Pours a lasting almond-coloured head atop a deep amber body. Nose is wonderful - I love Amarillo hops. The sweetness and spruce background on this beer has made this my all-round favourite available non-BC beer this year. Remarkable stuff. 9/4/8/4/16 Changed (161), Ithaca, New York, USA Mar 20, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours deep red with nice off white head- and tons of floating yeast. Aroma is a nice hop-blast, but the last is a bit underwhelming- not a ton of complexity in this one. Not very hoppy for something marketed as a "red IPA." Still, a drinkable beer- just not at +$2 a bottle. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Mar 18, 2009 12oz bought at Julio’s. Powerfully aromatic ale with its explosive dry-hop aroma, loaded with resin and tangerine. I can’t say it’s particularly attractive with its numerous beige sediments floating around the dull light brown body. Its head is initially uite large though, but again fades away within minutes. Still, the nose catches back the poor first impression with its apt inclusion of caramelly more than toasty malt. Plenty of hop aromas in mouth also while the bitterness remains limited, the latter being especially due to the malt’s heavy consistence for the style, in the Californian mold. Lasting spruce resin finish does not completely annihilates the cerealic base. Successful in its genre. While relatively straightforward, a full-flavoured and most drinkable ale.
