Commercial Description:
Resinous hop character and bitterness balance the rich caramel malt base. We took it a step further and Amarillo dry hopped the brew to 45 IBUs, creating refreshing and savory hop flavors and aromas. Is it Red IPA? That’s your call.

Bottle. Hazy dark reddish beer with lots of floaties. Medium thick yellow head with a green shine. Hoppy aroma with a good malty base. Notes of grass, pine and fresh fruit. Very pleasant grassy flavour of bitter amarillo hops with caramel and it ends up fruity and hoppy. Smooth mouthfeel. Great amber.

Crushed with Jakebra. Nice hit of floral and pine hops on the nose made me excited. Very thin-bodied with some bittering hops, but not nearly enough. Way too thin. It’s nice, but not excellent.

On draft at Tyler’s Taproom in Durham NC, this brew poured a nice darker red with a nice white head and a good amount of lacing. Nice nose of citrus, pine and floral hops. Nice hoppy IPA flavor with the expected citrus and pine and a perfect amount of carbonation and solid mouthfeel. Tried a couple of brews on this vist to Tyler’s and this was my favorite.

Bottle, #463. Deep hazy amber pour with decent head and good lacing. Lots of floating stuff. Citrus and floral hop aroma and flavor. Something kind of homebrewy in the aftertaste. Pretty good, but not great.

Pours a deep copper with a one finger caramel head. Aroma is hops, but it is slightly metallic and a little off. That is nowhere in the taste though. Lots of hops, bitter, some citrus, and some caramel malt. Lean is towards hops than malt. I like the description of "red IPA" for this beer.

pours a deep darkish amber, with a thick tan head that fades slowly and laces nicely. huge nose of citrus and pine hops, as well as a malt note that kind of reminds me of muffins. blueberry muffins, let’s say, though there isn’t anything particularly blueberry about it. pretty great, though. big resinous piney/citrus hop flavor, offset perfectly by the brown sugar crystal malt. like a toned down version of a fantastic barleywine or double ipa. reminds me a lot of great lakes burning river (which, coincidentally, i was just drinking), though maybe a bit maltier. moderate bitter on the finish--nothing assaulting. very pleasant. somewhat dry finishing, though medium of body. very nice level of carbonation. i feel like my taste for hoppy beers has been steadily waning for the past year or more, but when i want a hoppy beer, i want it exactly like this. "amber ale" or "red ipa", it’s a crystal-rich, hoppy ale, and it tastes wonderful.
