Trooper11 (464), Suffolk, Virginia, USA Jul 6, 2008 Great thick foamy head, lasting, atop a dark reddish copper unfilitered brew. nice appearance. ahh, inviting malty forenotes with definite hops presence in the aroma with hints of orange zest. Oww, very dry hoppy grapefruit flavor...mouth is puckering dry. I like it.Extreme bitter aftertaste. Not for the faint of heart. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Jul 6, 2008 Poured a clear mahogany with a fizzy/frothy off-white head. Aroma of pine and grass, some slight earth, a touch of alcohol, some caramel malt. Flavor is assertive and hoppy with notes of some light citrus, some grassy hops, a touch of biscuity caramelly malt and a touch of metallic dryness to the finish. An amber ale? I had this pegged as an APA, though it is somewhat malty. Nice west-coast hop presence combined with some chewy malt makes this a heck of a stand-out session brew. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Jul 6, 2008 (Bottle) Pours a lightly hazy amber body with frothy medium-sized beige head. Aroma of grapefruit, caramel, bread, some chocolate, and orange. Flavor of citrus hops and caramel malt; nice balance. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Jul 6, 2008 Bottle. Pours reddish orange caramel, off white head. Aroma is malt caramel, vanilla peat (uh-oh). Flavor is the same, graham cracker, and bitter. It’s more on the wet peat side, but not over the edge. This may be one of the few peaty beers that I can actually drink. Way to go Green Flash. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 6, 2008 Sample mooched off Maniac at Capital Ale. Citrusy floral hop aromas. Mostly clear amber brown with moderate grainy malt backbone supporting the citrusy tea like hop flavors with moderate bitterness. Light body and moderate carbonation. Finish is mostly dry with grapefruit and some hop bitterness. steview (901), Los Angeles, California, USA Jul 5, 2008 amarillo really makes it pop! ... dark copper body; great aroma--bubblegum, over caramel, malt; flavor is sweet, but resinous, earthy... tea thing going on; i like it a lot. buzzoven (333), Japan Jul 5, 2008 I’m probably the wrong peson to really trust on this review seeing as Ambers aren’t my drink of choice; but I had to try this one out of curiosity. Beautiful colour, golden red with a "sunset over the hillls" kinda feeling. Not much of a smell, but the taster is a kicker. Ropey and somewhat metallic at first, with a huge bitter finish that just keeps going and going. Interesting style and kudos to Green Flash for pushing the envelope a bit on this one...just not something i could personally buy and drink on a regular basis. coldbrewky (716), Saugerties, New York, USA Jul 5, 2008 Bottle via trade w/stephanje! Pours a hazy brown amber. red, not truly but the idiom in the name is understood. Light nose of ho hops then malt. Thick oily orangish head is slightly rocky and has excellent retention. Cascade or northernbrewer hop bitterness dominate nose close to the glass, something else punches the tounge with strong bitterness. Lovely, I shoud have read the label, amarillo dry hop. small tight lacing patchy cheesecloth. that hangs on a bit before dispersing. refeshing on a hot day moving rocks
