IvoR (30), New Jersey, USA Aug 2, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark amber to red with small head and lots of floating particles. When I smelled it I thought it was going to be another IPA for the day and double-checked the label. The flavor however was very soft and different than that of an IPA. A combination of fruity hops malt. The hoppy character lasts throught a very long finish. It’s like drinking two styles of beer at once. Very drinkable. troopie (848), USA Aug 1, 2009 Bottle. Poured wine red with medium white head. Some lacing. Aroma of pine, citrus and resin. Very hoppy flavour, almost like an IPA. Lingering hop finish and welcome in hot weather. Craybees (17), New York, USA Jul 30, 2009 Pretty fine example of the style. "Is it red IPA?" Maybe not. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. A nice, bitter finish completes a well-balanced malt/hop taste (emphasis on the malt). Definitely prefer this to Red Nectar. PaulHegedus (458), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Jul 28, 2009 Bottle. This is a rich red amber colour in the glass. The head is frothy, off-white/cream colour, about an inch and a half tall with some lacing as it subsides. Head retention is solid. Aroma is wonderful: plenty of grapefruit in the hops, some pine needles, avocado, a hint of pipe tobacco. Mouthfeel is smooth, medium thick in body, with a subtle oiliness. There is some caramel in the malt and biscuit, bread with more pine, orange, grapefruit, some apple in the flavour. A nice long bitter finish. bwilley (20), Fullerton, California, USA Jul 27, 2009 Bottle. Nice amber/dark caramel color with light head and lacing. Nose with a bit of tobacco and citrus. Tastes of pine, caramel. A nice very hoppy red. cprochak (388), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 27, 2009 On tap at Daily Pint, Santa Monica, 7/8/09. Pours nice amber with good eggshell head, nice lacing. Great dry pine hop aroma, with undertones of caramel. Smooth and well balanced with great bitter finish. msante79 (778), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA Jul 25, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours murky red with off-white head and a ton of floaties. Aroma is hoppy with pine, citrus, and caramel malt. Flavor is bitter hops, pine, citrus, caramel, spices and good malt backbone. Full mouthfeel and finishes bitter.
