Hopper (277), San Antonio, Texas, USA Jul 1, 2009 Pours a dark red with little head. Aroma is piney hops, citrus, & dash of fruit. Taste is well like an IPA with mild to medium bitterness. A lot of sediment(yeast) floating around. Overall a pretty decent beer, & yes I would call it a red IPA. BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA Jun 26, 2009 Bottle served in my NB worthy glass: Coppery hue with a nice frothy head and good lacing. The aroma has notes of moderate piney and resiny hops, some grassiness, caramel and crystal malt, hint of grapefruit and pepper. The taste is more towards the sweeter side with the malts very much a player but the bitterness and citric elements are still found. The best part of the palate s towards the finish with a hop spice snap that has part pepper and part rye character. The finish is a tad chalky and astringent. The mouth feel is actually quite reserved, not as biting nor lively as most hop forward brews. All in all more that acceptable but could be a bit cleaner and sharper on the palate and finish.... the it would actually be a Hop Head beer. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Jun 26, 2009 The Dan Journal #251. Tasted 2/17/09. 12oz bottle. Hazy with a reddish brown hue. Bubbled off-white head. Bright hoppy aromas. Piney estery hop notes. Rather full bodied with a bright palate. Very fresh. Bready malt character with a rye astringency. Zesty, hoppy finish. The finish lingers slightly. Solid brew! elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Jun 26, 2009 Bottle. Pours orange-amber, clear, and with a creamed corn coloration. Aroma is of “wet” pine, leaves, and grapefruit. Flavor is beautifully juicy, a nice red fruit-caramel bite, followed with a firm bitterness. A bit of toasted malt as well, along with some dry chocolate in the finish. Palate is smooth throughout. Delicious, if you ask me. VitaminR (422), Colorado, USA Jun 25, 2009 Malty citrus nose, some resin. Soapy head, reddish amber brown color. Carmel sweetness with lime pine needle bitter balance. Medium carbonation, medium mouth, biting bitter finish that transitions into a nice maltiness. Great caramel malty beer with big hops potbeercollege (254), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jun 23, 2009 a definite piny, grassy flavor in a great red-amber color with nice malty lining. Most definitely a Red IPA! a beige head with immediate tastes of citric almost light caramelly tatstes EricE (446), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Jun 21, 2009 Deep red-brown pour with a bubbly, thick tan head on top. Nice lacing. Overall a great looking pour. Malty aroma with caramel, molasses, and nuts. Surprisingly strong with all the hops, though the piny hops do shine through. Thick malt and grain flavor with nutty molasses notes. Strong bitter hop finish. Very nice. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 15, 2009 [2205-20090601] 12floz bottle.
