4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Excellent red. Appearance is perfect for the style - deep, cloudy amber with solid head and lacing. Aroma is strong, but mostly malt and caramel. Flavor is awesome. Itís hoppy, malty, sweet caramel to start and a bitter hop finish. Good stuff.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown With a large white head and some floaties. Aroma is fresh citrusy hops and a little sweet. Flavor is the same with a mellow bitterness and a load of caramel. Medium bodied with lots of carbonation. Not very complex, but very tasty.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Bottle) Purchased at Spinnakers Spirit Merchant in James Bay, Victoria, BC. Pours a lasting almond-coloured head atop a deep amber body. Nose is wonderful - I love Amarillo hops. The sweetness and spruce background on this beer has made this my all-round favourite available non-BC beer this year. Remarkable stuff. 9/4/8/4/16

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUN 12, 2012 Re-rate. 12oz bottle. Pours murky amber, white head, no much of it, some lacing. Aroma is malt, caramel, some hops that arenít of the citrus variety? Taste is a malt blast, then a hoppy bitterness of the finish. Nicely complex. Moderate carbonation, long-lasting mouthfeel. A lot better than when I first tried this.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bought at Julioís. Powerfully aromatic ale with its explosive dry-hop aroma, loaded with resin and tangerine. I canít say itís particularly attractive with its numerous beige sediments floating around the dull light brown body. Its head is initially uite large though, but again fades away within minutes. Still, the nose catches back the poor first impression with its apt inclusion of caramelly more than toasty malt. Plenty of hop aromas in mouth also while the bitterness remains limited, the latter being especially due to the maltís heavy consistence for the style, in the Californian mold. Lasting spruce resin finish does not completely annihilates the cerealic base. Successful in its genre. While relatively straightforward, a full-flavoured and most drinkable ale.

On tap at the Neighborhood in SD. Another good, but undistinquished effort from Green Flash. Malt dominates, whereís the hops? Call it Malt Head Red Light and I would be more impressed.

12oz bottle. Excellent beer, definitely more on the IPA side of things. Great hop presence with a very dark reddish brown color. Godd lingering after taste.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Caramel brown in color, with a head that fades away quickly. For an amber ale this appearance is very nice. Huge malt aroma. The fact that this has only 45 IBUs I wasnít expecting a very bitter beer, but with a name like "Hop Head" what was I expecting? Huge malty aroma that leans towards a barley wine-type aroma. This was not the aroma that I was expecting. Slight bittering hop that adds a weird flavor to the beer. It seems like this beer should be, or was meant to be a barley wine. The bittering hop is great, but it doesnít compliment the malt aroma, or flavor. Very sweet malt flavor at first but then that hop hits you very hard. Decent beer, but not one of my favorites.
